Some members of Donald Trump's inner circle are serious about him serving a third term in the White House, according to Steve Bannon.
Trump's former chief strategist — who has remained loyal to the MAGA movement, despite the fact that Trump fired him from his White House role less than a year into his first term — made the comments in an interview with The Economist's editor-in-chief, Zanny Minton Beddoes, and deputy editor, Ed Carr, in Washington, D.C. this week.
Bannon shared his certainty that Trump will remain in office for at least another term.
"He's gonna get a third term," Bannon said. "Trump is gonna be president in '28, and people just sort of [need to] get accommodated with that."
When asked about the 22nd Amendment, which prevents candidates from being "elected to the office of the President more than twice," Bannon said there's a plan in place to work around it.
Baffling his interviewers, Bannon referred to Trump as "a vehicle of divine providence," saying it's the "will of the American people" that he serve another term.
"He's not perfect. He's not churchy, not particularly religious, but he's an instrument of divine will. And you could tell this by how he's been able to pull this off," he continued. "We need him for at least one more term, right? And he'll get that in '28."
"We had longer odds in '16 and longer odds in '24 than we've got in '28," Bannon concluded. "We have to finish what we started."

And the ice cream.

I’d prefer he just use this term as he promised.
Exactly. There are a whole lot of people who aren't on the left who are massively turned off by this kind of talk.
I’ve been considering writing him in, in ‘28.
We already have plenty of young blood in the administration: Vance, Haley, Rubio, etc.
Obama already invalidated any constitutional requirements for running for President so Trump can run again if he wants.
I meant Gabbard, not Haley. Big mistake!
What a humdinger of a constitutional crisis an attempt at a third Trump term, by hook or by crook, would create.
I watched part of President Trump’s statement this afternoon. Some journalist asked him if he’s put anything in place to continue to combat cartels and human traffickers once he leaves the White House. He didn’t say it, but I wish he’d said: “Who says I’m leaving?”
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice”
If he is elected as Vice President, then he can become President again if the Pres. resigns.
it doesn’t say he is ineligible to be Pres., it just says he can’t be “elected” President more than twice.
“Need new younger blood.”
Agree. Trump is great, but by 2028 he could be not as mentally sharp. And we have so many good possibilities in Vance, Rubio, even Karoline Leavitt.
Yes, the 22nd Amendment could be “worked around”. It could also be repealed. Prohibition (18th Amendment) was “forever” and “set in stone” — until it was repealed by the 21st Amendment.
Bannon may or may not know something. Sure does give the impression that he’s in the know, however. Interesting.
This assumes that Trump wants a third term. It’s alarming how many people here seem to think this is a good idea. But not surprising.
This is just more trolling.
I wish they would lighten up on it.
I want nothing to do with the disingenuous and self-serving Steve Bannon.
Bannon isn’t even a conservative: his economics are left-wing, rabble-rousing, eat-the-rich populism.
“We have to finish what we started.”
Make Trump Speaker.
Get POTUS & VP to resign.
Trump goes into the White Ballroom.
Bannon is wrong.
MAGA is not about Trump...its about changing the direction of the USA.
Part of that is moving beyond political dynasties.
IM ALL IN!
