Finally managed to get my relocation to Tennessee approved by the big multi-national bank I work for. Used a medical exception, a large medical file and several doctors letters saying Chicago area winters are brutal on my Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and peripheral neuropathy in my feet and lets.

“We get up to Chattanooga for a concert every now and then.”
Would that be at Lee University?

Congrats! I think you’ll love Tennessee. We moved to KY from the Northeast, and it finally feels like home!

I left Memphis 55 years ago. It wasn’t a bad place to live before the MLK assassination. Then it got progressively uglier and more dangerous.

Fixing the bad places could take two lifetimes. Sometimes you just have to recognize that and act accordingly.
I dismay at California ever regaining its senses.

No, not Chattanooga. Been there, don’t want to live there.

Really? So the rest of the red and southern areas have to be invaded by cut and runners? People who get all the benefits from moving without the sacrifice? Sorry, stay and fight or don't move. Tired of the south being overrun by transplants and yankees.

Basically, I'm a major slip and fall hazard because I don't feel my feet. I'm unable to go outside in snow/ice conditions because I can (and have) break bones.
BlackElk (RIP), a great and prolific Freeper, slipped on ice in Durand, Illinois, dying shortly after that. He was already in pretty bad shape, but the conditions in Durand, IL (literally a stone's throw from Wisconsin) was not good for him at that point. A lot of Illinoisians go to Tennessee. Some come down here to Arizona. Tennessee is more conservative, and has no state income tax. It sounds like you chose well.

I was not impressed with Murfreesboro. I did buy two cars in Tennessee (the first to avoid the effects of Illinois salt), full sized B-Bodies with LT-1 (350 CI) V-8 station wagons. Both great cars, especially the one I bought in Soddy Daisy. The other was in Cahttanooga.

So many of my family, will in-laws which I consider my family because I don’t have much of one, have moved to Tennessee. Seems it is the place to be these days! The only reason I’m not gone out of Hellinois is because my elderly mother refuses to budge and I have to help take care of her.

When you get settled and have your ham gear setup, let's have a go at FT8. I'm functional between 6m and 40m. The weather has turned already, so hopes of getting the broadband terminated folded dipole will have to wait for late Spring 2026. The SharkRF M1KE gets the job done for internet connected voice modes.
Congrats on the pending closing date. The new place sounds nice.

Maybe you should move to East Cleveland or Buffalo if you’re so big and brave...

10.25% sales tax in Chicago, real estate tax about 3 times higher than TN, and a flat $25 extra on top of sales tax for guns in Cook County....if you can even find a gun store and are desperate enough to buy there.

Congrats on your escape. The Titanic is holed below the waterline and is steadily sinking. Illinois’ finances are obviously completely unsustainable. I urge all non Leftists to get the hell out before Illinois jacks up taxes to the stratosphere and property prices collapse as more and more try to flee as a result. The pension promises Illinois made to public sector labor unions are going to wreck that state.
BTW, not only will your taxes be lower, but you’ll find your gun rights no longer infringed upon.
