House Speaker Mike Johnson defended himself and fellow GOP leaders after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized them for lacking a plan to deal with the expiring COVID expansion of Obamacare subsidies.
“There’s a lot of work that’s been done on that,” Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, said Tuesday. “It’s implied as if this has been some sort of ignored issue. It’s not that at all.”
Ms. Greene, Georgia Republican, took to social media on Monday to announce her support for extending the enhanced Obamacare subsidies, which Democrats are demanding to reopen the government.
It was a notable break from other right-wing lawmakers who want to see the pandemic expansion expire at year’s end.
“It is absolutely shameful, disgusting, and traitorous, that our laws and policies screw the American people so much that the government is shut down right now fighting over basic issues like this,” Ms. Greene posted on X.
She criticized GOP leaders for showing a lack of interest in addressing the issue.
“Not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING!!!” Ms. Greene wrote.
Mr. Johnson said Ms. Greene is “probably not read in” on the work behind the scenes because she doesn’t serve on the committees of jurisdiction.
“They’ve still been sort of in their silos, of the people who specialize in those issues,” he said. “When we get the conference back and when everybody’s back together, we will go through a lot of that.”
Ms. Greene posted that she’s “not a fan” of Obamacare and generally believes insurance is a “scam,” but she is “absolutely disgusted that health insurance premiums will DOUBLE if the tax credits expire this year.”
Democrats expanded the premium tax...

Let me posit a thought - Do Democrats even want to reopen a government that is not giving them what they want? If their objective is to overthrow the government wouldn’t the job be made easy by not going along with funding the government including ICE, the military, federal law enforcement, etc? They know they have burned all their bridges behind them and their only hope now seems strategically to shut the whole thing down, let it crash, so true to the Marxist philosophy it can then be rebuilt into their Communist nirvana.
No, it should be repealed. Just like Congress promised until the GOP got both chambers and the presidency. Then all of a sudden, no, they couldn’t possibly repeal it!
President Trump said today during his news conference that he doesn't want to see
anybody lose his health insurance. I'm with President Trump and MTG on this.
MTG needs to STFU.
She has become insufferable! Another RINO showing her True Colors! Grrrr!
Wait. I'm confused. To what party does she belong?
“For example, with the enhanced tax credits in place, an individual making $28,000 will pay no more than around 1% ($325) of their annual income towards a benchmark plan. If the enhanced tax credits expire, this same individual would pay nearly 6% of their income ($1,562 annually) towards a benchmark plan in 2026.”
I’ve already paid more for Medicare Part B this year and another payment of $555 is due soon.
Lord, that woman is as dumb as a box of rocks, on top of being a drama queen.
Marjorie Taylor Always Bitching Greene
Suggested PPACA coverage modifications:
Silver plans would be limited to a maximum deductible of three times [$5028] the Medicare Part A amount [2025: $1676].
I would also make bronze plans low cost by having 50% co-pays up to $10,000 with the $10,000 paid up front to the insurance company by the insured. If and how each $10,000 would get invested would be subject to contract. Unused amounts of the $10,000s would be refunded after each policy is closed out. A policy would not be closed out until the time allowed for claim submission has expired.
I would also make copper plans low cost by only covering Part A scope items plus what Part B would pay for any general or regional anesthesia surgery. These policies would be like the Blue Cross/Blue Shield policies of my youth.
I would allow Federal PPACA exchanges to offer Interstate Class Drug Plans,
exempt from state control that cover under contract at the time of policy issue at least:
1. 80% of all FDA-approved recombinant drugs by key active entity
2. 80% of all key FDA breakthrough chemical active entities under patent as of January 1 of the coverage year
used in a drug approved by the FDA by August 1 prior
3. 80% of all key chemical active entities under patent as of January 1 of the coverage year
used in a drug approved by the FDA by August 1 prior
4. 90% of all WHO “essential” drugs
This system would allow for genuine negotiation between drug plans and drug companies. Drug plans would have an incentive to try to buy drugs from drug companies and drug companies would have an incentive to make deals to make sales.
Plan in-network drugs would be supplied at on an all-the doctors prescribe basis. The co-pays would be roughly equal to mere manufacturing cost. Out-of-plan drugs need not be covered at all.
The copper, bronze and Interstate Class Drug Plans would not be subsidy eligible.
It was already double. The gov was stupidly paying half of it on a temporary COVID basis.
Of course Dems want it permanent and if they get their way, the socialist subsidy of an already socialist policy will just keep increasing.
That is what she does best ! Almost like she is a RINO.
We don't have a free market for healthcare or healthcare insurance. Without reforms that bring market forces back into the equation to keep prices down, healthcare premiums and the cost of insurance will go through the roof for many if the subsidies expire.
And, that happens, Republicans are going to take a beating in 2026.
MS Greene works for the other side & for her own promotion. OCare is a monster who served no one well & distorted health insurance. It’s time for it to die.
“Do Democrats even want to reopen a government that is not giving them what they want?”
Airports may wish to pay their controllers.
Those that don’t show up wouldn’t get airport money.
Obamacare must end
(OCare is a monster who served no one well & distorted health insurance. It’s time for it to die.)
IOW I agree

Someone on Medicare collecting $15,000 a year pays much more than that. I think the cheapest is $130 something a month. Then you have to pay for a supplemental on top of that!
Republicans should shove that down the Democrats throats. Loudly.
“I have heard nothing from GOP leadership about the matter.”
Just because you haven’t doesn’t mean they haven’t...
“I have to admit, the Republicans lasted longer than I thought they would before they began to cave to the Democrats.”
Where have they caved?
