WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is asking nine major universities to commit to President Donald Trump’s political priorities in exchange for more favorable access to federal money.
Universities were asked to sign a “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” committing them to adopt the White House’s vision for America’s campuses. It asks the schools to accept the government’s priorities on admissions, women’s sports, free speech, student discipline and college affordability, among other topics.
Signing on would give universities priority access to some federal grants, but government money would not be limited solely to those schools, according to a White House official who was not authorized to publicly discuss the plan and spoke on condition of anonymity. Colleges that agree would also have priority access to White House events and discussions with officials.
The compact, obtained Thursday by The Associated Press, asks universities to accept the government’s definition of gender and apply it to campus bathrooms, locker rooms and women’s sports teams. It asks colleges to stop considering race, gender and a wide range of other student demographics in the admissions process and to require undergraduate applicants to take the SAT or ACT.
The 10-page proposed agreement was sent Wednesday to some of the most selective public and private universities: Vanderbilt, the University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth College, the University of Southern California, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, the University of Arizona, Brown University and the University of Virginia. It was not clear how these schools were selected or why, and whether similar offers might go out to other colleges.

But the AP article is written like this, if it's true anyway, is somehow a new thing from Trump.
Have you noticed how often AP writers have names you would associate with the Mullahs?
More agitprop from Ass Press. They never give up.
They’ll either refuse, or agree, then undermine the program by renaming and hiding the offensive practices President Trump wants to eliminate. Better install an overseer in each school to make sure they don’t pull a fast one.
Capping tuition, limiting international enrollment, and protecting conservative ideology is crucial shift in higher education. By setting this precedent, schools and future presidential administrations can protect conservatism on campus.
Why not create a government funded experimental program starting with 50 colleges/universities and have the experiment require a particular type of conservative education? Make it 12 year term and gauge the results in 2038.
No leftist ideology is permitted whatsoever.
It is such that I question any claims made by AP, even if they sound good for conservatives. If what the reporter “reported” is correct thenTrumphs just taken a step to the left and the assertion that government as the source of all things.
I know. Let’s eliminate ALL such funding. Either that or he who pays the piper calls the tune.

I will get blasted but if the above is an accurate take on what Trump has called for it raises serious First Amendment Concerns.

They committed to Biden’s without question. To me, this is a slide back towards neutrality. We know they won’t allow diversity of ideas without being forced.
Playing nice has rewards.
How about no federal subsidies at all?
I mean unconditionally. And let them keep their agenda (presuming they can stay in business without the subsidies).
It’s not a question of his rights. He can certainly withhold funding (unless there is a legal reason such as Congressional appropriations) and he should. But making receiving the funding conditional on a university committing to his political agenda could be equated with censoring other political agendas. Which threatens their First Amendment right of Free Speech and Free Association.
If Biden had ever suggested that access to federal money was conditional on a college showing favor to his political agenda there would have been objections here.
Private grants can certainly be geared towards colleges or their programs which favor certain political agendas. Which what Trump should have told them after putting the plug on the federal money pipeline.
