The H-1B visa, introduced by the United States in 1990, has long been a pathway for highly skilled professionals from across the globe to contribute to America’s technology sector. Many of today’s tech leaders, including Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, and Satya Nadella, entered the US through this programme, allowing them to innovate, lead companies, and create global impact.

Sundar Pichai

Pichai came to the US as an international student before transitioning to an H-1B visa, which allowed him to join Google in product management roles. Over the years, he rose to become CEO of Alphabet, overseeing key innovations in AI, Google Cloud, and hardware like Pixel phones and Nest devices.

Satya Nadella

Nadella moved to the US in the early 1990s and obtained an H-1B visa to work at Microsoft. Rising through the ranks, he became CEO in 2014, leading Microsoft’s transformation through cloud computing, AI, and enterprise solutions. Nadella emphasises the critical role of skilled immigrants in fostering innovation and growth, highlighting that many of Microsoft’s most transformative projects have been driven by talent brought to the US through H-1B.

Now we know why Google and Microsoft CEOS are conducting mass layoffs of white American workers and replacing them with fellow H1B Indians.

Indians are very good at corporate politics. There is no colleague they won’t screw over and will go to great lengths to make themselves look good at the expense of others. Letting these scumbags over here on H1Bs and having a couple worm there way to the top is not a success story. Plenty of douchebags play politics to get to the CEO job. Race and sex also play a lot into the favoritism of boards that just see those factors. What is the purpose of these articles? Do you think anybody will change their minds about importing this dreck at the expense of Americans?

“Now we know why Google and Microsoft CEOS are conducting mass layoffs of white American workers and replacing them with fellow H1B Indians. “

Ok, that’s so much bull in that one sentence”

1. “Mass layoffs of white Americans” - the bulk of those affected are sales folks and a few techies. The racial breakdown isn’t available, but looking at linkedin the majority of these aren’t “white”.

2. Indians in the USA - both American citizens (whether first or second generation) and visa holders are ALSO affected. Many H1B workers were also laid off - read the Indian papers and you’ll see many stories about these.

3. These people and more importantly the ROLES aren’t being replaced, not with “fellow H1B Indians” nor by anyone else. These are roles such as sales, HR recruiters etc. who are being phased out by AI. Among the IT folks, I know scrum masters, project managers, middle managers who are affected and some techies in older tech. I personally think many of these layoffs is a mistake, but that’s a different question.

4. Why have you left off Elon Musk from this list? He laid off most of the Twitter workforce and also Tesla folks. He is also an H1B

They are no better or worse at corporate politics than others.

Satya Nadella for example has proven exceptional at Microsoft - switching direction and profitability positively since Ballmer.

So what if he isn’t Indian? - Musk came on an H1B and fired 80% of twitter’s staff — the bulk of whom were “white” Americans.

So why don’t you mention him?

Yep, since Elon Musk is H1B, then the barriers to H1B should all be taken down, since all H1B hires are another Elon Musk.

Why are you so pro-H1B? Are you one; married to one?

There are many, many proven cases of white Americans being laid off and replaced by H1B immigrants, or fresh out of college and not being hired because of H1B immigrants. H1B rules allow companies to save lots of money by hiring H1B immigrants.

Why are you so willing that Americans should be crowded out of the job market by H1B immigrants? Shouldn’t you be willing to lose your job to an H1B immigrant?

My suggested H-1B system:
1. replace the existing system with a salary-based, monthly in 2025 and weekly thereafter, auction system
2. start with 330 openings per bid period day
a. increase openings by 10 per day, up to 500 openings per day, if the winning bid threshold goes higher
b. decrease openings by 10 per day, down to 200 openings per day, if the winning bid threshold goes lower
[to make the system employer demand responsive]
3. get rid of the bogus can’t find an American nonsense
4. limit H-1Bs to 10% of the number of full-time, directly employed, PPACA-regulated health care cost coverage plan covered employees of the employer having a college degree
5. must work on employer’s premises on employer’s project
6. may not ever serve as a chain migration anchor [at most children/spouse]
7. fees
a. $2,000 per bid fee [to deter bogus/duplicate bids & prevent auction system denial of service], plus
b. $5,000 winner fee [to compensate for reduced domestic search costs],
c. an annual inverse salary fee of 10% of the salary amount less than $200,000 plus 20% of the salary amount less than $120,000, plus
d. a payroll health coverage cost savings fee of $8 per week per year of age under age 65 [so highly experienced Americans not replaced by cheap, healthy young foreigners]
8. The Secretary of Labor shall compile computer software development language lists each December and May [college course completion months]
and shall only list languages it found to have been in existence for at least one year
9. H-1B persons can’t start working on coding in a software development project in any Secretary of Labor-listed language

The person must have at least a four-year degree in a statutorily specified subject from a Secretary of Education list of selected, respected educational institutions.

The minimum salary amount should be 120% of the most recent DoL salary survey average for the degree and (interpolated) years of experience.

The H-1Bs should be bid out and awarded based on the salary premium in dollars to the minimum.

The bidder must have paid FICA in excess of $50,000 for the penultimate year per winner (to block out scammers). The Secretary of Labor may waive this requirement for up to 1,000 people per year. The bidder must have already won at auction. Auction fees would not be refunded if the waiver is not granted. The waivers will permit startups to import talent.

There would be no requirement beyond common sense to seek domestic talent (as the idea that no domestic person can be found to do a lawful high-tech job is ridiculous). The $5,000 USCIS fee per winner will encourage paying for a search for domestic talent.

A subsequent employer of a person would have to have a subsequent winning bid for the person.

Allowing an imported person to find a better employer would discourage employer abuse of imported employees.

The previous employer would have a qualified (subject to then current law) right to import a replacement person at the bid salary or higher if the person left within one year of auction close.

After six years of salary payment at the person’s initial winning bid level or higher, the H-1B person might then be awarded permanent residence if the law in effect at the time allows for it.

[If the salary is $80,000, the annual inverse salary fee would be $20,000 ($12,000 plus $8,000).]

[The software body shops would need to set up partnerships with American colleges to meet most of their staffing needs.]

I’m not arguing for zero H-1Bs.

My system would make it very easy to import superior people and too expensive to import mediocre people.

WIKI

[Sundar] Pichai was born on June 10, 1972 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to a Tamil Hindu family. His mother, Lakshmi, was a stenographer, and his father, Regunatha Pichai, was an electrical engineer at GEC, the British conglomerate.

Pichai completed schooling in Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai and completed the Class XII from Vana Vani school at IIT Madras. He earned a B.Tech in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He holds an MS from Stanford University in materials science and engineering and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.

Elon Musk yes. The other two I don’t consider to be “success” stories at all. America would have been better off had they never come. They pushed the hard left censorship line at Alphabet and Microsoft and they discriminated against American workers to bring in ever more H1B Indians. That’s exactly what we do not want.

Sundar Pichai - was that BEFORE or AFTER they dropped the ‘do no evil’ mantra?
