Better treat them right, don't you think? That was the kicker. Slavery as a matter of private property was the guts of the Biblical social welfare system. What we have done without it is to socialize the poor. Didn't work, did it? When slavery became an income for its administrators because of the value of indentured constituency in a democratic system, it has become so expensive we could all end up in bonded servitude. How to resolve that paradox with humanity in the resentful culture it has produced is our challenge today.
Christ understood that original specification, speaking from that perspective in Matthew 25.

After Charlie Kirk’s assassination, I researched other prior ones...including Lincoln’s. His was especially devastating and arguably set back race relations in our country for a century. Southern Reconstruction was a disaster. And the sin of slavery remained a stain just as Lincoln had called it.

That is an interesting comment and supports what I’ve heard elsewhere: slavery was a southern problem; discrimination was a southern problem; racism was a southern problem; segregation was a southern problem; sin was a southern problem; tooth decay was a southern problem . . .

You forgot the word “signaling”. Virtue signaling is in no way virtuous and is/of itself a weakness.
Your context needs to pretend quite the malicious concept that somehow America invented transatlantic slavery which is both historically incorrect and it is morally preposterous.
In the American context slavery was inherited.
The slavery issue remains a horrible thing in world history.
I remember as a 22 year old watching the first episode of the tv mini series ‘Roots’.
I saw a white dude capture a black teen by roping him. I ignorantly assumed that was commonplace in the rounding up of slaves. It was years later that I learned that warring African tribes sold captured young blacks to white slave traders.
And when blacks claim that in Bible times the 12 tribes of Israel and the Egyptians were black, I offer the question: “So when the Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians for centuries, was that a black on black crime?”
Yes generational sins and patterns are sadly a thing, not just in cultures, but in families.
A child is more likely to grow up alcoholic if their parent was, and their parent’s parent was etc…But the power of Jesus can break the cycle!

In recognizing that there _are_ slaves (thousands of years ago), the Bible is not saying “wow this is wonderful” its saying “treat them correctly”
Charlie uses the word “regulate”, as in ideas based on humane and proper treatment of the slaves that are being held. The important thing is that there is a separation in the difference between slavery in Roman times which may have only lasted for a period of time vs. chattel slavery which was not only indefinite and generational. Since the Bible does not endorse even the temporary ancient slavery there is no way it endorses the generational.

That is exactly what makes the Founding Fathers so defensible.
Many of them broke the cycle in their own lifetimes. This is what makes blaming America for slavery so indefensible. It was an inherited evil.
“The Empire” didn’t bring slavery anywhere. It was almost universally practiced. When Columbus landed in the Western Hemisphere, he found the natives were terrified of another tribe who took them as slaves. The islands of the West Indies HAD slavery before any European knew the place existed.

You are welcome. I wrote that book but pulled it off the market because I found so much more in both interpretive and translation errors, particularly in Genesis, that needed correction and development I chose to do research instead of hawking a book. Yet that passage I cited is such an important discovery I left it for public absorption.

Slavery was slavery. The slaves brought to the USA - only 6% of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, BTW - were made slaves by AFRICANS and ARABS. White Europeans didn’t penetrate Africa and round up slaved. They BOUGHT them along the coast.
And I’m not sure being a slave TO BE SACRIFICED TO NATIVE GODS was better than being a slave in Georgia.
