I'm looking for a text to speech app so I can convert novels I have in text form to audio. I listen to all my books on audio now and about all new novels are in audio form.
But I'd like to read some old books that are not available in audio. I know they have excellent programs for this but I'm looking for an independent one that doesn't require internet connection and that I don't have to renew each year.
Any suggestions? Hopefully something affordable.

Computer or cellphone?
Probably Google text to speech, for your purposes.
I’d like the opposite: Speech, and especially video, to text.
I hate watching and listening.
A bit related.
Blackstone audio is the oldest and best audiobook publisher.
They have an appp called DOWNPOUR.
Their regular priced books are expensive.. 20s and 30s
However they have a daily sale book for 3.99 and two related books for 4.99. Those books tend to be older or classics.
Also many libraries have apps like CLOUD and among the dross one can find the more popular classics. Usually agatha christie and some of the other British and Americans. I just listened to 2 wila cathers recently.

Download to your computer. Easy to use. Features to slow or speed up texts. Records and saves audio files you create.

Notegpt has a video to speech summarizer that is quite nice- saves hours of listening to irrelevent video chatter before the author finally gets to the point. The summarizer breaks down all the relevent points
I check out both books to read on my tablet and books to hear from my I Phone.

That is notegpt.io
Forgot to mention, you just input the video url, and it co verts video to summary. Have obly tried it on youtube videos, but might work for novel co version too, if the video (or perhaps audio) is online
Cool! Thanks!
Many online libraries have the audiobooks available for free to borrow. My daughter lived in NYC and maintained her library membership when she moved due to the huge library of audiobooks available for free download on her computer or cell.
Excellent and useful thread. Thanks.
I like glasp youtube summarizer. It’s a chrome add-in. You can open a video in Youtube, and click the glasp button and it will take the transcript of the youtube and summarize it for you.
I do pay something for it. But I use it a lot. It’s nice to take a 25 minute video and get the guts in 30 seconds.

Cat got my tongue (larynx removed) so I need a type-to-vocal system that straps to my left forearm with largish keys for one-hand typing, with a self-adjusting volume that can go from barely-heard in near silent places to shout in very noisy ones.
That or prod Elon to perfect his mental link thing so the keyboard is bypassed entirely.
Interesting and useful thread.
Word.
