He was born 135 years ago tomorrow. Remember the chicken in the bucket. Haven't been to a KFC in years, but I hear in Japan, Kentucky Fried Chicken is a Christmas day dinner tradition.

The Chinese love KFC. There were KFCs all over the place in Zhangjiagang and Shanghai when I was there in 2001 and they were always busy.

Wanna bring the Chinese to their knees? Shut down all of those KFCs.

(I didn’t rhyme that on purpose, but it came together quite nicely.)

Haven’t had a bite of KFC since the early 1990s... And that may be why I’m still alive.

Yes the Japanese reserve their Christmas KFC well in advance.

I didn’t get to taste it in Japan, but in America it is pretty bad compared to what I enjoyed as a kid.

It was so incredibly good in the 60’s and maybe 70’s, I can still see, smell and taste it from memory. The gravy was also incredible, and dipping that massive delicious breaded chicken leg in the gravy was an emotional experience.

Omnipresent amid all the frenzy of Shanghai is that famous portrait, that modern icon. The faintly smiling, bland, yet somehow threatening visage appears in brilliant red hues on placards and posters, and is painted huge on the sides of buildings. Some call him a genius. Others blame him for the deaths of millions. There are those who say his military reputation is inflated, yet he conquered the mainland in short order. Yes, it’s Colonel Sanders.

When you’ve got a good franchise, KFC is something to dream about. Unfortunately, all the restaurants around us here in MA seem to be owned by one group and DEI staffed. The dried out chicken makes restaurant chicken look great. Heartbreaking because we keep hoping and keep going back saying This Time Will Be Different.

Yup. A franchisee in Japan started the story that Americans have KFC for Christmas, and they bought it! The ex-pat yanks had no problem indulging in American comfort food at Christmas, giving credence to the myth.

KFC is pretty good. I grew up in the Chicago area, and we had Church’s Fried Chicken in town and it always tasted better than KFC to me.

I tried Popeye’s for the first time at their shop located (then) next to the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Chicago. This was back when Popeye the Sailor was still the mascot. IIRC it wasn’t bad.The best chicken I’ve tried in the states is Gus’s in Memphis, TN.

Most of the Asian countries where I’ve lived are big KFC fans. South Korea has the overall best chicken in the world The best chain store chicken I’ve had was at Popeye’s in the Busan, ROK train station, but the best overall fried chicken i’ve ever eaten was bought from a little old Grandma with her Hibachi out front of the baseball stadium in Daegu, ROK. Heavenly.

Now, I’m hungry! Cheers!

[unverified]

“One of my mothers tricks to chicken she taught me was to ‘marinate’ chicken in seasoned buttermilk for 30 minutes or so before frying them.

“This allows the buttermilk to tenderize the meat – you do not NEED to do this but my mother recommends it.

“The chicken comes out juicy and tender with lots of flavor.”

I have always loved KFC Original, but in some places it seems like they have switched to canola oil - leaves an unpleasant chemical taste. There is 1 KFC near me that still produces good chicken.

My favorite way of preparing chicken is to grill it and a sprig of rosemary on a charcoal fire.

In the 2010 episode “Cornering the Colonel” (Season 3, Episode 5), the team was offered one of Colonel Sanders’ iconic white suits.

The suit was authenticated as one of the last owned by the Kentucky Fried Chicken founder.

The negotiation proved difficult, and it’s unclear if a deal was reached for the suit, as is sometimes the case with complex or high-value items.
