A new poll conducted by Leger360 between August 29 and 31, 2025, is causing controversy in the world of U.S. politics, as it projects that California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, is the frontrunner for the 2028 presidential election.
The results of the survey, which were shared on social media, pitted Newsom against potential GOP candidates, including Vice President JD Vance, former President Donald Trump, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The California governor narrowly leads the president by a score of 48 percent to 44 percent, 47 percent to Vance’s 46 percent, and 49 percent to Rubio’s 44 percent.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent, which makes these potential races extremely close. Many conservatives are already greeting the survey’s results with a healthy dose of skepticism, primarily due to the methodology employed, as well as the context of Newsom’s political record and recent actions.
Some have pointed out red flags that raise questions about the credibility of the poll. They note that Leger360’s track record, which was the subject of a study completed by the “Journal of Election Studies,” found that Leger overestimated Democratic support by a total of 5 percent. According to the study, this was the result of oversampling urban voters in online panels.
Experts point out that if the current numbers are adjusted to factor this in, Trump’s support could rise to 49 percent, Vance’s to 51 percent, and Rubio’s to 49 percent, which changes the entire narrative and some of the conclusions drawn from the poll.
As MAGA supporters have all but crowned Vance as the man to take over the mantel of leadership for the movement, it’s likely that, with all of the information taken into context, the biggest threat to Newsom’s potential campaign is the vice president.
Newsom recently attempted to reach out to popular conservative podcast host and founder of Talking Point USA, Charlie Kirk, which signals a shift to broaden support. However, many on the political right believe the move is opportunistic, especially given his extreme left-wing policies, like climate regulations, which have strained his state’s economy.
Conservative commentator Arthur Morgan has waved off the results of the Leger survey as nothing more than Democratic propaganda. Others are also viewing them with caution, specifically citing the above-mentioned bias of the company that produced the poll.
Vivek is obviously a very smart guy but for the reasons I mentioned above I don’t see him as a viable candidate for President. But for governor or something that’s ok.
Quite possibly one of the most hare brained analyses I’ve read on FR, and I’ve been reading them for over 15 years.
What is he going to run on? $6 gas prices? $1.5 million shoebox homes in the San Diego suburbs? Homeless encampments? Rampant shoplifting? Retail deserts? Corporate and residential mass exodus?
Every attack ad will be video footage of all of the above and the tagline, "Gavin Newsom wants to do for America what he did for California."
The NWO will install Newsom... The choice is not ours. We think it is, but believe me it is not.
What a waste of time
I will say it if no one else will. Vance is not a superstar. He is definitely no Donald Trump who only comes along once in a 100 or even 500 years. I don’t think that Vance as much as he is being pushed has what it takes to win. I also don’t entirely trust Vance. After all, McConnell let him into The Senate. In the past, McConnell always blocked pro-American conservatives using dirty uniparty politics, even helping the democrats win if needs be.
Maybe if Trump can clean up our elections, a mere mortal could win on our side, but the republican party has no interest in doing so.
The GOP without Trump is just not an option. Even if someone like that wins, America would still be destroyed. Do we need a new party with a populist platform. Could someone like RFK Jr. or Tulsi win on that platform?
I think we can beat Newsom but we have to frame the narrative starting right now.
Fortunately, we have TikTok and X so Newsom is no longer in control of the narrative.
We have to be flexible on who's going to be Trump's successor. Vance, Rubio or even Tulsi Gabbard.
We have Charlie Kirk on our side so he's good at getting low propensity voters to show up on Election Day.
But our greatest challenge is that Trump is not going to be on the ballot in 2028.
Vivek seems unpopular on FR
By the way, I like Vivek. He's the only guy who seems to understand what we need to do. America became an Empire. We need to make it a Republic again.
Vivek needs to accomplish more before we can take him seriously. Hopefully he'll become the Governor of Ohio.
Typical FR negative response with no rationale, support, or affirmative alternative.
THAT is what I call hare-brained...
...and what got America to the brink of extinction...
I like a lot of what Vivek says but I can't shake the glib timeshare flim flam salesman vibe I get from him.
I don’t exactly trust Vance either. While he says a lot of the right things it seems he came out of nowhere. He was basically installed in the Senate by Peter Thiel of Palantir. So we can assume he’s in full support of the domestic surveillance state.
Don’t know much that could be more worthless than an election poll 3 years out.
It seems all these Indians are scammers at heart lol. There was that flim flam biotech he was a running that used his mother for fraudulent research. Yes he’s very intelligent but character counts too.
Now that we have the numbers for California, how does Vance do with the entire country?
Maybe that used to be the case. But now it's probably more like 20%.
Let me ask you this: What if the the glib timeshare flim flam salesman actually does what he consistently proposes and dismantles a great deal of the mostly unconstitutional federal gov’t?
What have you got to lose?
The alternative is more of the same: your fancy is tickled for a short while by what turns out to be another political flim-flam man and we continue down the Road to Serfdom and extinction.
Like Obammy ate Mittens for breakfast?
Vance appears to have a bit more fight than Mittens, but on who Planet Earth doesn't?
In my view, there is not an ounce of populism in either Vance or Rubio.
They are both poster boys for the GOPe.
That's why I'm promoting Tulsi in 2028.
The roots of the Democrat Party are not all bad, Reagan wasn't just a Democrat but a true believer in FDR's New Deal.
Trump has PROVEN that party and ideological labels mean NOTHING.
If you are approached by ANY professional politicians claiming to be "conservative", turn away and head the other direction as fast as possible.
A "conservative" professional politician is an oxymoron.
Those boys and girls spend like drunken sailors and NEVER conserve military might as they are always squandering it on decade long conflicts which are strung on in the name of nation-building.
They should have run him instead of Kamilla, the “keeper of the Grass”.
The last three elections have shown us how accurate the polls are...
Understanding the idiom leads to correct spelling.
The 2028 Olympics in LA will be such a nightmare. Newsom won’t survive that failure.
