How Pauly Shore Found Out He Had a Tumor That Caused No Symptoms: ‘Instinct Played a Huge Role’
New York Post ^ | Aug. 30, 2025 | McKenzie Beard

The “Encino Man” actor, 57, revealed this week that he recently went under the knife to have a tumor removed from his pancreas — a shock diagnosis that came without any warning signs. “Instinct played a huge role in this,” Shore said of the trendy medical test he took on a whim, which detected the hidden growth. “You never know what the f—k is inside your body.”

About three months ago, the funnyman decided to undergo a full-body scan — a high-tech, head-to-toe checkup that’s gaining traction among celebrities and wellness influencers. “They check for tumors, cancer, aneurysms, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, you name it,” Shore explained in an emotional Instagram video posted from his hospital bed on Aug. 27, which has since been taken down. “Being in my 50s, I thought it was the right thing to do.”

Roughly a week after the scan, he got the call. Doctors at SimonMed in Las Vegas had found a small, benign tumor tucked in his pancreas, which they said may have been lurking there for 15 to 20 years.

“a small, benign tumor tucked in his pancreas, which they said may have been lurking there for 15 to 20 years.”

So if it’s “small and benign” and caused no problems in two decades... why excise it? Asking a surgeon whether something should be cut out is analogous to asking a barber whether he recommends a haircut. Being a surgery in-patient at the hospital is one of most dangerous places to be due to possible infections, blood clots, medical error etc. etc.

I don’t think there’s any debate. He isn’t funny.

Even a benign tumor in the wrong places could make things bad. One in your pancreas could maybe damage insulin production.

Folks, I highly urge people to get at least one of these scans done. I have had three, over the years.

For $500, you can have this done with the company we used for the two most recent scans (Ezra):

Get a baseline review to know where you were at some point in time. It might just find actionable stuff, too.

Fair enough, but that possibility has to be weighed against the risks of surgery and a stint in the hospital.

I know people who’ve done elective surgeries (e.g., knee-replacement, benign polyp removal in colon etc.)... and ended up leaving the hospital in a body bag.

Definitely, everything has to be weighed in these decisions.

Prostate cancer is definitely one they don't always act on, because it's usually so slow growing.

My mom had an MRI recently and it showed a very small cyst on her pancreas, in 2019 it wasnt there and now it is so her doc told her to do a recheck every year, that its common in older folks but still a good idea to check

Yup. My son spent hundreds of days in the hospital. He tripped the sepsis protocol many times. It’s a dangerous place to be.

"... full-body scan — a high-tech, head-to-toe checkup that’s gaining traction among celebrities and wellness influencers."

This isn't so much as news as it is an ad.

Not really. Didn’t even mention the company, or much detail about it.

I am familiar with surgery in and around the pancreas. My wife had pancreatic cancer and she had multiple abdominal surgeries over the past six years.

Getting ANYTHING out of the pancreas is not an easy surgery. It is located in a weird place and it is at the “superhighway” of blood systems and the digestive system.

I guess if you are going in for a benign tumor—knowing you are not going to do the massive reconstruction they do with a Whipple—it is easier than what PC patients go through.

These scans are interesting. I would imagine the biggest issue is the number of false results—or finding small benign things that have been inside you forever. It can be disconcerting.

I had a brain X Ray that showed a colloid cyst. Those can be fatal. But, it is suggested they are the remnants of tissue captured in the womb. So here I was at 44 years old getting worked up over something that had literally been in my head since conception. Follow up scans over the past 20 years show its actually shrinking.

But...at least I know it’s there. I call it my “Brain Pea” in my pea brain.

Exactly my first thought.

So, anything that might make someone, somewhere money should be hidden from the public by the media at all costs.

I think the New York Post is consistent at a certain level of quality, but they are sensationalistic. But I think this article is "fair" by their standards, and people might be interested in these health measures. I've seen advertorials, and I don't think this is it.

Love your answer. You're now my go to guy whenever I have to give any serious considerations to medical procedures.

We're lucky to have you on board this website.......
