What will Democrats make of this arrangement when they return to power? Beto “Drive it like you stole it” O’Rourke may have some ideas....

The article quotes Trump saying "stupid people" with no further quoted context.

Do you have the full quote?

The Japanese government has done the same thing. Now they have a bunch of zombie companies they can’t do anything about because the government owns them. This is bad.

Does anyone think Boeing is a good company? I beg to differ. It’s a shell of what it once was and an ugly shell at that. That’s because it’s our National Airplane Company and it can’t be allowed to fail. I was angry that Boeing is in every defense mutual fund. I asked my adviser to find one that didn’t have Boeing. He reported it was in all of them. All he could do is offer the fund with the least amount of Boeing. The same will be true about other companies the government owns.

I think maybe, just maybe, you’re (notice the you’re and how it is used) the one who is getting more caustic, RandFan.

Here’s President Trump’s actual quote:

I PAID ZERO FOR INTEL, IT IS WORTH APPROXIMATELY 11 BILLION DOLLARS. All goes to the USA. Why are “stupid” people unhappy with that? I will make deals like that for our Country all day long. I will also help those companies that make such lucrative deals with the United States States. I love seeing their stock price go up, making the USA RICHER, AND RICHER. More jobs for America!!! Who would not want to make deals like that?

I'm a huge Trump fan, but I disagree with this move. Charles Beard explains why in his book An Economic Interpreatation of the Concstitution. Public expenditures on private company in a direct fashion is not wise. If you want to do it indirectly with tax policy, that's a little different. I also don't like inside trading by Congress, either.

Did congress specifically allocate funds for this?

Trump, more that most everyone, should know the government can’t be trusted, post his presidency, to be the steward for the USA that he is.

Taking government stakes in failing companies isn’t a good thing.

It’s a National Security issue.

US commercial enterprises, utilities and military must use chips manufactured in America. We must make all of them.

That should be obvious to the average 8th grader.

Free trade and the free market failed to meet that imperative.

FINALLY... Trump finally does something that is actually in line with Fascistic ideaology...

I do not approve of this. Just as I didn’t approve of “too big to fail”... This is NOT a good move.

I’m sorry but President Trump has already built his real estate “empire”

If he (apparently) has more acquisitional aspirations, he can buy or build more nice hotels and resorts. With his own financing and for his own account.

The federal government and our tax money are not supposed to be acquiring private companies. I am accepting doing something about intel because we need microchips in our defense. But frankly this feels like a bit of a stretch and I’m hoping to see the feds get out of intel ASAP. certainly our immense private capital markets could’ve handled an 8 or 9B funding! (And if not, we have troubles far far far far larger than discussing this intel deal..)

Best for a happy Monday

I think it’s a fantastic idea, the Donald is trying to help them out. I didn’t hear too much b-—hing when the Gov’t bailed out GM and Chrysler, Ford said no.

The government (Federal, State and Local) have been pouring BILLIONS of taxpayer money into these chip companies for decades. Whether in Texas or NYS (Global Foundries https://gf.com/ ) it’s BILLIONS and BILLIONS. Ask yourself why?

Trump must have got this idea from the Socialists in Europe. All the governments in Europe hold a controlling stake for decision making and between 45-59% of the companies.
