American Hero who inspired Cracker Barrel's cherished logo... as fury mounts over move to axe him from emblem

Cracker Barrel's decision to remove a beloved businessman from its logo has sparked fury across the United States.

The company announced earlier this week it would remove the likeness of Uncle Herschel, the real-life relative of the brand's founder Dan Evins, from its iconic signage.

In the old emblem, Herschel was shown sitting on a wooden chair in front of the eponymous barrel.

But he is notably absent from the new logo, which features just the text of the brand name in a yellow hexagon.

The change is being keenly felt by fans of the restaurant, who knew Herschel as a 'goodwill ambassador to the public', per the company website.

His story resonated with the American public, as a flour salesman for 32 years who traveled across the South to general stores to make his living.

'After his retirement, Herschel brought the long-standing tradition of being a good neighbor to each and every Cracker Barrel store,' the company said.

'He spent most of his working life bringing forth the important yet simple message of what makes a business successful – that people should be treated just as we would have them treat us. He was known throughout Cracker Barrel for his genuine sincerity.'

Wow, between your excellent questions and ChatGPT answers (I personally love Chat for this exact reason), I think you’ve got this solved! Do you work in marketing?

She looks like a baby killer to me.

No wonder she promotes destruction.

I’ve been to Cracker Barrels all over the place - since their parking lots are usually full, with waiting lines, if you get there after the lunch hour has started, I can’t imagine why the idiot in charge decided to change anything.

As a former road warrior in the southeast, I pass by many of them. I say pass by, because the few times I tried them the food was sub par. What looked yummy was bland. And who puts sugar in their vegetables? Yuck! I stopped going, so I cannot boycott. I think the company’s actions here are dumb. Did they not observe the Bud Lite fiasco? It would have been better to improve the food.

Do you work in marketing?

No. I'm retired now, but I worked in IT. I was a facilitator, interviewer, and did root cause analysis at the end of projects towards the end of my career.

That's why I'm good at framing questions. Notice how few words it takes me to get the AI to produce so much detailed, but on-point responses?

That is a nice list of stuff that may have gone wrong. Looking at their stock price, it doesn't appear they recovered from Covid shutdowns. The stock had a dead cat bounce, but it didn't last long. From what I've read the company was woke well before the new CEO arrived and may have been more concerned about being woke than positioning the company for going back to normal operations after Covid

This is just a guess on my part, but I think it is likely CB lost servers and cooks to restaurants that were able to go back to full capacity sooner. The new CEO doesn't know how to stop the mediocre performance, so she changes the pictures on the wall, company logo and a few menu items.

Each and every time a company goes b’woke, the sycophant infestation of corporate America doesn’t learn a lesson, they harden their reserve against patriarchy and resolve to take down another American icon.

Never been to one, not real numerous around here.

Same with me. None in our area. Although I did go to one in Minnesota about 15 years ago. It made quite an impression on me. It really looked like and old cabin/barn. Heavy wood, with a huge stone center fireplace and roaring fire in it.

First time I ever had biscuits and proper sausage gravy. I thought it was fantastic.

They removed the breakfast named after him from the menu, so I guess this was just the next step.
