Perry recalled traveling to Tijuana, Mexico in September 2023 and spending 12 hours hallucinating that he was flying through space, seeing hieroglyphics and escaping the devil. 'I woke up very clearheaded, with this very warm feeling in my body,' Perry told the paper. 'I was as calm and as happy as I'd been in memory.'

During his time serving as Texas governor, Perry knew that many veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were in trouble, but he first heard about ibogaine through a Navy SEAL he had hired in 2017 during his time running the Energy Department.

Psychedelics are being seriously tested for PTSD. If they work, that is great. If not…at least we’ll know.

Trying new stuff isn’t bad.

But “running through the jungle away from monsters” is not really up my alley. To each his own.

Did he finally realize that his failure to secure TX from illegal invasion was a bad decision?
I bet NOT.

I do believe such treatments could be helpful, but I am concerned they could go bad, as well.

Who doesn't remember the LSD craze and people going nuts, seeing 30-foot tall spiders and such?

I seem to recall strange stories under crazed conditions with PCP, too.

Some drugs will permanently screw you over.

I remember Rick Perry ran for governor on the promise he would secure the Texas/Mexico border.
When elected, he said as governor, he had no authority to secure the border. Voters were fools to believe anything he said.

If everyone thought like you do we’d still be going to the barber shop for tooth extractions and bone-setting.

He seemed like a stoner even before that.

Remember when he zoned out during the debates and couldn’t remember which three cabinet departments he wanted to get rid of?

“Work”?
some may make one symptom better while likely messing up other things or causing need for more use.
Plenty of healthful ways to help the brain body and spirit.

Well, I’ll just say this. I recently heard Perry talking about a project/company he co-founded, to build a massive AI-data center campus near Amarillo. He was spitting facts, strategy, etc., talking details and also big picture.

My first reaction was, WOW, I didn’t know Perry had this in him.

He sounded MUCH smarter than he ever sounded as governor.

He could ALWAYS give a great speech. And that’s not a small achievement....but he was never really very impressive in a small group talking policy. (I was in meetings with him like that when he was governor). He always seemed a little foggy, a little less than fully informed, not very confident.

So for him to be doing real work, sounding AMAZING and intelligent...at 75...I’ll just say that it was noticeable. I didn’t think it was the same Rick Perry.

This was before I knew anything about his advocacy for ibogaine.

If ibogaine did that for him, I wish, for his own sake, he had gotten it thirty years ago.

I don’t know what injuries he perhaps suffered as a pilot during his service...or whatever was ailing him (comparatively) before, but, now....it’s gone.

He’s very impressive now. Pretty shocking, honestly.

entirely agreed. See my post 13. Something has changed.(On that particular episode, I always thought Ron Paul should have piped up and said, “I could help you think of a few, Governor...”).

I recall the debate during Perry's failed 2012 POTUS campaign. Perry was as capable as Joe Biden's 2024 debate performance. Perry couldn't name the Department of Energy.

After his disastrous debate, Perry tried to sell us that he had taken pain meds for an old back injury.
