"This thread is about how to nominate the purged 1946 film Walt Disney's Song of the South to the National Film Registry. The deadline is Aug 15. The form is in the next comment. You need reasons why it should be on the Registry & this thread will give you several."

Those that don’t do X cannot see comments

I have a good quality copy of the movie, it is just as uplifting and happy as we remember.
Zippidity Do Dah….
How did you get it? My mother took me to the movies to see it when I was little, and I'd like to see it again.
As far as I know, everything you find either as DVDs or as an online movie is bootleg, but I bought a DVD of it about 20 years ago, and I have also recorded it from online since then.
Do searches for it.
I agree with Texasgator, How do we help if we don’t have “X”?
Check Amazon. “Song of the South” is available there on DVD for $20.
Get the Deluxe Edition. According to the DVD’s site, it’s digitally remastered and so would be of better quality.
Is it any different than “Gone With The Wind”? Or how bout the sure to be ignored Asian character done by Mickey Rooney in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”? Birth of a Nation is another one that was very racist.
They need to understand that film is just as much history as what actually happened. Would it look right for Darth Vader not to be identified as a villain since he wore black? Somehow a pleasing soft blue armor wouldn’t get the point cross.
Anyone can play that game. And it is just as stupid any way you do.

I have a sinking feeling that even if this strategy succeeds, some liberal at the Registry will arbitrarily kick Song Of The South out, like it never happened.
Well I must say that the first things that came out of My brain was more like this.
Free Bird
Gimme Back My Bullets
Saturday Night Special
Sweet Home Alabama
But that’s just Me...
You can download the 4k restored version from the Internet Archive for free.

SOTS was released in 1946 (needed info for the form).
I got a copy of the Disney movie Song of the South, and I asked my grandkids to watch it and give me their opinion of it. Grandson was 20 and Granddaughter was 15. They couldn’t understand my question they didn’t see any racial concerns.
