The Greatest Threat Facing Iran: Running Out of Water
Tablet Magazine ^ | September 16, 2015 | Seth M. Siegel

If Iran is in the news because of its nuclear program, the greatest threat to the country’s well-being isn’t economic sanctions or the Sunni-Shiite schism. Rather, the greatest threat to Iran may be that the country is running out of water. The problem is so severe that social unrest, economic dislocation, even out migration can all be imagined. One government advisor recently predicted that as many as fifty million Iranians—seventy percent of Iran’s population—may be forced to leave because of a lack of water.

Water problems are a proxy for bad governance, and Iran has water problems galore.

By contrast, Israel—Iran’s self-declared foe—has perhaps the most sophisticated and successful integrated water management system in the world. Israel now has such an abundance of water that it exports billions of dollars a year of fruit and vegetables, and also provides water to Palestinians and the Kingdom of Jordan every day.

As fanciful—and nearly impossible—as that sounds, it is exactly what Iran’s ruler, the shah, did beginning slowly in 1960 and with a rush after 1962. Israeli hydrologists, water engineers, planners, and others became so numerous and so enmeshed in Iran’s water exploration and infrastructure that the majority of the water projects in Iran from 1962 until the 1979 Islamic Revolution were managed by Israelis.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

I posted this 20 year old article predicting a future water crisis in Iran after reading the current article on CNN stating that [Tehran] Could Run Dry "Within Weeks" as it Grapples with an Acute Water Crisis. The 20 year old prediction has become reality due to government inaction.

Much earlier, the shah had brought in numerous capable Israeli water professionals to develop a water system for Iran like exists in Israel. The Israelis were employed from 1960 until the Islamic Revolution in 1979 at which time they were driven out.

Since the Revolution, the clerics stopped water infrastructure planning and rather focused attention and spent resources on financing terrorists to destroy Israel and to develop nuclear capability.

“The Greatest Threat Facing Iran: Running Out of Water” and its phony religion. Islam unfortunately takes a toll on everyone, you cannot hide evil.

Yes, a proxy for bad governance and also for the collapse of civilization in general, so don’t be surprised if similar signs of breakdown occur in blue cities in a country near you.

I read of another country (Greece?) that was using the systems on their roofs to collect water but someone told them about the underground water all around them. So, they tapped into the water and have used it freely to the point where it will be a huge problem in the near future.

And, for Pete’s sake. Here come the Iranian WATER refugees wanting to suck our country dry.

Why didn’t they use all that oil money to build desalination plants? Sounds like a ‘them’ problem.

The WORLD is filled with ‘THEM’ PROBLEMS. It’s also filled with neocons, globalists and Frankfurt School trash trying to make them OUR PROBLEMS. Let’s not let them succeed with any of that.

Typical leftist mentality.

To hell with the people; line their own pockets first and foremost.

I suggest when the water runs low that they drink their own urine. Camel urine is an acceptable
alternative. Or people the world over could send them flasks of their own urine.

Thanks for the correction. The posted article was published 10 years ago, not 20. Even though I went to public schools, my math is usually better than that.
