Sugar-free treats have taken over the shelves. You’ve probably seen erythritol listed on sodas, protein bars, and even toothpaste. It’s everywhere. Almost zero calories, no sugar spikes, and perfect for keto diets. Sounds like a win, but maybe not.
A new study from the University of Colorado Boulder has cracked open a side of erythritol that few expected. It’s not about weight gain or tooth decay. It’s about what this sweetener does to your brain’s blood vessels that may elevate the risk of a stroke.

Plastics effect on testosterone is in my opinion largest societal ramification of chemicals
Remarkable actually
We should go back to glass for food
No I have not

“Stevia, which is natural, usually has thas erythritol in it. It’s hard to find pure stevia.”

I agree
I hate it that soda is now HFCS instead of sugar
I use straight stevia. Grow it, freeze dry it, powder it, and it is very sweet.
I use Splenda Monk Fruit Zero. Ingredients are Water, Monk Fruit extract, citric acid, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.
(Stevia)
How are you feeling, Lydia?
I only saw about 3.5-4.5 episodes
Stevia is 50 to 300 times sweeter than sugar.
Pure stevia is so sweet that you almost have to cut it with something so people don’t use too much of it and ruin their drink.
Beans, biscuits, greens apples and hamburger are cheap.
Hell, toss in some milk.
Problem is, nobody but me cooks anymore.
I just read a few articles and am no longer concerned. But that is because I don’t eat processed food and only use it in my coffee. And I don’t need it all that sweet.
It’s one of those “things are safe in moderation” things, as far as I can tell.
And the main evidence is correlation with cardiovascular problems. And as we all know, correlation does not equal causation. If you use this stuff to sweeten your nightshade, it’s not the eurythritol that killed you.
“Everything is chemicals.”
True, but the distinction between food chemicals and non-food chemicals is still valid.
We survived over who-knows-how-many thousands of years by eating certain chemicals and not others - so it’s fair to say we were not “designed” to ingest non-food chemicals.
Yep. Our hens lay our eggs. Our garden grows our vegetables and fruits, we split a steer with a friend every year, and I have a bit of sweetener in my coffee. I’m fine with this stuff.
You’ve got it—and you’re not alone, though definitely in the minority.
Yep. Same with Monk Fruit.
Sounds great—I might move in!
I think the problem with this stuff is the quantity. It’s naturally present in a LOT of foods we eat. It is, literally, a natural food. But like a lot of natural foods, if you eat too much it can kill you. I stay below four brazil nuts a day.
It is awfully pretty up here. But we’re full up. 🤣
Well, I heard from a scientist who worked at the company that manufactures Splenda that it causes brain tumors very quickly. He left the company because he was certain lawsuits would be happening.
