The “Cola Wars” has apparently hit the White House.
President Donald Trump said he suggested to Coca-Cola to change its formula use real cane sugar in Coke in the U.S.
However, the company is mum so far, per the Associated Press.
Other markets, such as Mexico and Australia, use real cane sugar. The U.S. production uses high-fructose corn syrup.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote on social media. “I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”
Corn Refiners Association President and CEO John Bode said the switch would not make sense.
“Replacing high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar doesn’t make sense,” Bode said in a statement, per AP. “President Trump stands for American manufacturing jobs, American farmers, and reducing the trade deficit. Replacing high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar would cost thousands of American food manufacturing jobs, depress farm income, and boost imports of foreign sugar, all with no nutritional benefit.”
The company responded by expressing its gratitude for Trump’s interest in the product.
A spokesperson for Coca-Cola Co. said details on any offerings would be announced soon. The spokesperson did not elaborate on the statement.
In the end, any change would not affect Diet Coke — Trump’s drink of choice. That is sweetened with aspartame.

Could we leverage a deal to revitalize Cuba’s cane sugar crop by 1000x and be a huge customer in exchange for political reforms and freedoms for their people? Timing could be right. I’d love to see tourism revitalized, infrastructure their rebuilt fresh and a huge Trump casino resort that the entire nation of Cuba benefits large from.
Hawaii too I would imagine.
My liquid diet is 1 cup of coffee in the morning, flavored seltzer water and beer with the occasional chocolate milk.
Used to drink Diet Cokes to the tune of 3-4 a day. Had kidney stones removed through my back and urologist asked about my diet. Told him about the Cokes and he said if I wanted them again, to keep drinking them. Haven’t had them since.
I drink nothing but Spindrift. Haven’t had a cola in years.
Actually leave this to Kennedy.
High fructose is when the diabetic rates shot up along with obesity. They claim there is no difference, even though there clearly is.
Also the taste is different.
My urologist made me stop drinking anything with caffeine. And to stop all carbonated drinks. And all chocolate.
I’ve been on this 2-3 months and I haven’t killed anyone yet.
It really is bad for you. I had reached 365 lbs, before I had a stomach bypass. I no longer drink all the sodas I used to and I lost a lot of weight and feel much better.
Yeah. People crazy like superstitious.
I think he can be turned on that. And maybe string beans will go back to 99 cents a pound instead of $2.99/lb.
Kidney stones are horrible. The worst pain I ever had and I passed mine.
Thanks for the update…lol. I will enjoy small portions of dark chocolate from time to time, purely in moderation. I must be managing my diabetes ok, just had my visit with my doctor. She said, “see you in October.” My blood glucose readings stay between 95-150, though I try to get closer to 100.
How come no one has come out with cola flavored soda water? I’m talking the kind without any sweetness or sugar.
Jack Daniels- breakfast of champions!
“King Corn Angry!”
King Corn also makes my 1970s vintage gasoline engines run poorly.
A few weeks ago I saw ethanol free gas for sale at Wawa in Warrenton, Virginia. Woohoo!
I’ve always heard high fructose corn syrup is unhealthy. I don’t remember why. I know it’s not as sweet.
i mean ethanol-free
Yep. Any soda can do that.
Another example of thinking that new government action will fix a problem when in fact, old government action is what caused the problem.
Get rid of the corn subsidies and HFCS prices will go up, which will make cane sugar a more viable alternative, which may cause consumers to switch to products which use cane sugar since it tastes better and is healthier. Although, you may have to pay a few cents more for a coke.
Instead of looking to government to fix your problems, force them to stop causing your problems.
