"The train had departed from Chicago and was bound for Miami before it came to a complete stop north of Hilliard."

Welcome to Florida
Reason # 57 to not ride amtrak
Welcome to Government-run trains.
Florida Train.
Happened to me a year and a half ago. Boston, DC. Sat on the tracks in New Jersey for two hours.
Amtrak SUCKS. I took it ONCE thinking it would be fun after visiting family in Los Angeles and take it back home to Oregon while I was living there. It took 48 hours which would have been a 12 hour drive. The engine broke down several times. There were HOURS just waiting on spur lines for cargo trains to pass. The bathrooms ran out of water. There was no food left in the galley. And the final insult was the engine broke down AGAIN just across the Oregon border and we had to walk to the highway where shuttle busses took us the rest of the way.
Garbage organization.
Wondering how that’s different from how we travelled on the LIRR in the 70s. We could open the windows, but that was before we allowed them to treat us like we are all complete morons
However, it is inexcusable that passengers on a train couldn’t be allowed to temporarily disembark and reboard under those circumstances.
I’ve ridden Amtrak several times in years past from Florida to Alexandria. Not sure I’d do it again now. But, it was mostly a pleasant experience at the time.
Blaine the Mono was a sentient monorail that went insane over the course of its long lifetime. He became suicidal and attempted to kill his passengers in his suicide, but was ultimately defeated.
Monorail!
Hilliard is where my wife and I are from.
It’s also where the huge FAA Control Center is.
Next time, fly.............
Decades ago, I rode on Amtrak several times. I only had one incident — the air conditioning in the train car I was in broke down, and it became like a sauna in there. This motivated me to move into another car which had a normal temperature. I can’t imagine what it was like when the entire train became a sauna. They should have let those people get off. What were they thinking?
The government should get out of the business of running trains and let the railroads handle it.
Didn’t they give out free Vodka airline bottles?
I don’t understand why people just stayed in the train suffering. If that’s me, I’m getting off and taking an Uber to the nearest hotel or airport.
We were on that train (41) a week ago Toledo, OH to Jacksonville, FL. We took Floridian (40) home on Saturday. Sunday, around Richmond our dining car overheated and lost refrigeration, so no dinner service. We had a limited breakfast this morning in Cleveland before we got off in Toledo. I must say, I never slept better than on Amtrak, and the Amtrak employees were great.
Amtrak - America’s version of Aeroflot.
A couple more comments.
If the train could have gotten to Jacksonville, FL, everyone could wait in the station which is kept so cold we had to take periodic walks outside to warm up. That is one cold station.
I found the outside of the train could have used a bath, because it was nearly impossible to take any pictures out the windows.
I had a buddy who said I needed to try the trains in Europe or Canada to see what real on-time rail service was. From above post, it is what I suspected - dedicated rails. We spent a lot of time on sidings and were nearly 3 hours late arriving on both the 40 and 41 trains. We took Amtrak from Toledo, OH to Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA round trip last year, and the ride/service/employees were first rate (4 hours late both ways due to freight trains mostly).
95 degrees?
Poor, sweet babies! Welcome to the South, cry baby! ;-)
On some occasions it is 95 overnight!
I wish it was only 95 degrees here.
