Trump shocks with plan to rename SEVEN military bases for Confederate soldiers after Biden-era renaming

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he was reinstating the names of seven military bases that had been named after Confederates, including their leader, Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Trump made the announcement during his trip to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, which had briefly taken on the name 'Fort Liberty.'

In February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that it would be riverted to Fort Bragg, but would be named after a World War II hero, not the problematic Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg.

'For a little breaking news, we are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort A.P. Hill and Fort Robert E. Lee,' Trump told the crowd Tuesday.

'We won a lot of battles out of those forts,' he continued. 'And I'm superstitious, I like to keep it going right? I'm very superstitious, we want to keep it going, so that's a big story, I just announced it today to you for the first time.'

Trump said he was pressured to wait and make the announcement during Saturday's parade marking his birthday and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Army.

'I can't wait!' he said at Fort Bragg. 'I've got to talk to my friends here today.'

The president's move makes good on a campaign promise he made, not in 2024, but in 2020.

“Because the Democrat/Progressive left are in full cover-up mode over their slavery advocating. insurrectionist, rebellious Confederate past.”

Whoa! Hold back on that high horse.

Remember, twice as president Lincoln took an oath to defend and preserve the pro-slavery United States Constitution.

If you want to you can argue Lincoln wasn't serious about upholding the pro-slavery United States Constitution and that, if fact, he did everything he could to destroy the Constitution. There is much evidence to support that argument.

Putting their names back the way they were meant to be. So shocking! 🙄

Against overwhelming odds and with a ferocious fighting spirit, the Confederates kicked Union butt for the first 27 months of the war. That fighting spirit should be remembered and memorialized by the United States military. A huge price was paid to keep the nation united.

Thank you, President Trump, for reaffirming that we are all Americans.

I’ve got to drop Trump a letter. We want FORT HOOD BACK. Fort Cavasos has no history.

This is good. It's tradition to honor Confederate soldiers.

For the same reason, it should remain the Gulf of Mexico. Because tradition.

Exactly.
Veterans from both sides met for years after until they were just physically unable to do so, praying together and sharing a comraderie only those who have fought can know.

It helps breaks the usual cycle of hate that you see in tribalist regions of the world, where kids are brought up to seek revenge and war never ends.

Democrats were trying to delete their history of slavery.

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Nathan Bedford Forest is more than worthy; tactical genius and one of the very best mid-echelon commanders, perhaps in all of history.

The liberals never asked us Veterans about renaming the bases we served on. Ft Bragg will always be Ft Bragg, no matter what these fools say or do.

Go Trump!

Trivia Quiz:

Who was the last of the Confederate Generals to lead troops in battle?

Bonus points: What future president served under his command?

God bless Donald Trump. Now also please restore the USS Chanceslorsville to the Navy, the Southern Women’s statue to the Arliington Cemetery Confederate section, and the Lee statue and Lee Hall to West Point.

The 13th amendment banning slavery was not ratified until Dec of 1865. The union states of Missouri, Delaware, Kentucky and Maryland were all slave states. Slavery, prior to the passage of the 13th amendment forbidding chattel slavery was a 10th amendment option of the individual states. The US constitution did not REQUIRE it, even though the Fugitive Slave Clause did allow for the interstate apprehension and return of runaway slaves.

Given the constitutional realities of the time, Lincoln had NO constitutional authority to interfere with slavery in those slave states not in rebellion against the US. The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order aimed at depriving the Confederacy of the military utility of the labor of their slave population, and was framed as such.

Lincoln can hardly be blamed for a constitution that at the time did not allow for him to end the evil institution of slavery, anymore that Trump should be blamed for not being able to end the horror of unchecked in the womb baby slaughter of innocent infants in those states supporting abortion.

There are other grounds to accuse Lincoln of constitutional infidelity, but his position on slavery is not one of them.
