--SNIP-- The benefits of creatine supplementation were first discovered in the 1970s by the late Roger Harris, a professor from Aberystwyth University in Wales. Creatine has since become well established in the sporting world, with a wealth of research behind it linking it to improvements in our physical function.
But over the last two decades, studies have been starting to reveal other potential health benefits of creatine supplements. One of the biggest areas of research is cognitive function, given that creatine plays a role in neogenesis – the formation of new neurons in the brain.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
You reach saturation of creatine two ways: a big dose and small doses thereafter or medium doses for a while.
This was just the big front dose. Lots of people do this.
The only risk I see is stomach upset.
Creatine is hard on your kidneys and you will pick up five pounds, more or less, in bloating water weight.
That’s certainly the myth, oft repeated by medical “ professionals” who repeat bad science like gospel.
But for lifters and knowledgeable sports med doctors, they know that If you are properly hydrated, take creatine with carbs, the water goes into muscle cells which expands, making you much stronger. There is zero effect on kidneys.
Not exactly “bloating” as traditionally thought.
THIS.
Years ago I pumped up with over hydration and creatine. I got impressive results. I was gulping close to a gallon a day. Once you stop, the water leaves the muscles and size returns to normal.
High Creatine levels are an indication of liver damage, which DO affect kidney function. I think this could be a very dangerous supplement and should be taken on the advice of your Doctor.
Very bad science in your post.
Unexplained high creatine is a sign of something going wrong, yes.
Just like unexplained weight loss can mean lots of bad things.
High creatine because you eat properly (meat) or take creatine has never been showed to cause bad things.
In fact, high creatine not only helps your brain, it can help your heart keep beating (without damage) during the critical 30 seconds or so of a heat attack.
All this bad science being repeated comes from the same group of scientists who say weightlifting is bad and the Covid shot is wonderful and should be mandatory. Oh, and don’t eat meat and eat 70 servings of grain a day. It’s all junk.
Yeah, the gym is full of rocket scientists.
My advice was to consult your Doctor. I still think it is good advice. Having suffered from liver difficulties (liver cancer and cirrhosis), I am forced to monitor my creatine levels constantly, so I have a better than normal experience of monitoring rise and fall of creatinine levels due to internal and external stimuli. Anyone who takes on a ‘program’ of unusual diet should always consult their Doctor, regardless of whether you believe the science or TV commercials.
Maybe the average gym goers, but the people that do it for competition and as athletes in other sports know their stuff. I learned a lot during my time as an amateur body-builder and it has carried forward. I am mid 60’s 6’2” and weigh 225-235 in off season and cut down to 190-200 for competitions with 7-10% body fat depending on season. I only take protein powder shakes, pre-workout, BBCA replacements, and creatine and it has worked well for me. Other than a yearly physical I haven’t been to the doctor since late 50’s age when I started BB. Didn’t get COVID nor the flu either.
Creatine has migrated to the longevity world in the last year or two.
I take ten grams in the morning and 5 grams before bed.
It gives me clear steady mind throughout the day and improves my sleep.
great stuff imho.
If creatine really works to make people smarter, the gym near me needs to start powdering members like New Orleans prison guards delousing Mardi Gras arrestees.
IMO the lack of brain power issue is over-exposure to tv and social media. The US education system is a close second.
