Let’s say Russia takes over Ukraine (one of the most corrupt countries in the world)… then what? As long as Russia doesn’t go on an ethnic cleansing rampage (doubtful given their common ethnic origins), and honors the mineral agreement with the USA, why should we care?

But I care more about the well-being of any European country than I do for any African, Asian, or Middle Eastern country, for the simple reason that I am of European origin.

I think there’s a concern Putin would move against the Baltic states or one of the other for Soviet bloc countries. But that’d involve NATO. Poland may not want the Bear on their doorstep in light of prior history.

Both sides are demanding terms they know they won't get:

Ukraine wants the return of Crimea (out of the question) and the Donbas (almost equally unlikely).

Russia says it wants the whole of Ukraine.

Neither of those things will happen. If you focus on the possible, it's easier to understand the solution.

Russia knows the Western countries (Baltics, Finland, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic) are gone from its sphere of influence forever. Expect Russia to exert pressure on Orthodox countries in NATO with Romania being the first. Russia still considers the Orthodox civilization to be in its sphere of influence. Along with the large Russian ethnic concentration in Donbas/Crimea, that's why Russia took direct action in Ukraine.

The other NATO countries will have mandatory conscription. Russia will have to replenish itself so it may take awhile.
