Trump demands ‘30-day unconditional cease-fire’ between Russia and Ukraine after Zelensky call

President Trump again pushed for a 30-day cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine Thursday after speaking by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, promising to “stay committed to securing Peace” after earlier threatening to walk away from talks between the warring nations.

“Talks with Russia/Ukraine continue,” Trump, 78, posted to Truth Social. “The U.S. calls for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations.”

“If the ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions,” he added.

Zelensky, 47, described his call with Trump on X as a “good conversation,” during which the two presidents “welcomed the Ukrainian Parliament’s ratification” of the US and Ukraine’s newly inked mineral deal that will see the nations splitting profits 50/50 from the sale of new mining and drilling licenses on Ukrainian territory.

Misleading headline. He's not demanding a cease-fire.

EXACTLY - apparently most of the clowns posting their "ultimatum" & "rock and a hard place" claptrap didn't read anything but the headline, which did NOT match what Mr. Trump actually said...

I thought Trump said he is no longer going to waste his time on brokering peace for this war.

He's gonna kill that white whale if it's the last thing he does.

Why do you oppose President Trump and his peace plan?

____________________________________________

You mean his peace plan to send more weapons to Ukraine?

“Arms for Minerals.”

Ha! Minerals under Russian control. And as if Zelensky would keep his end of the deal in the first place if he had them.

It’s “President” Trump.

You don't give a wet crap about President Trump, marcus.

Remember - you took the day off to get new guidance when President Trump won last November.

you're just using Trump to troll.

The only way for this war to end is from Muscowy to give up its imperialist mindset and return to 2013 borders.

How about we support Russia and join forces with them to end this war in the next 10 days?

If we truly want the war to stop then we must stop sending billions to the wrong side.

everybody except Putin that is ... who cannot even honor his own announced cease fire.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It takes two to honor a ceasefire. And Zelensky has never agreed to any of Putin’s offers.
Instead of bloviating on social media Trump and Zelenski need to get busy providing answers.
Yep.
There's nothing worse than when a stinking FR troll like marcus pretends something to get an advantage in a discussion.
Since he's drugged up and hiding out in Prague I would say he is that stupid. I've heard Russia has 150 Oreshniks ready to visit Kiev.
Muscowy’s idea of “ending “ this war is “temporarily ending the battle so the world forgets, then Moscow forces return in a few years and grab more territory “
President Trump planned the oeafr and minerals deal.
It will be good. If you deny that it means you don’t trust Trump
Putin’s offers were
1. Agree to us not only keeping the land we grabbed but more
2. Disarm yourself so next time our army will have it easier
3. Don’t join any defensive alliance that could prevent Moscow from attacking you
Trump needs to bail from this war or he's going to inherit it like Nixon did with Vietnam.
The base absolutely doesn't want anymore money wasted on Ukraine or sanction wars that cause inflation.
Muscowy is far from winning.
They actually hold less territory than they had on 1 March 2022.
Putin’s goal of absorbing Ukraine like he is doing to Belarus via the union state , failed.
Putin in fact built up Ukraine’s sense of self, strengthened NATO by pushing Finland and Sweden to join, and weakened Muscowy significantly
The Muscowite permanent solution is they want yo absorb all of Belarus, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Moldova. And re enslave the former eastern bloc countries.
The Muscowites never abided by the Minsk accords
1. Russia-backed separatists, supported by Russian forces, were frequently cited for initiating attacks, such as at Donetsk Airport (January 2015) and Debaltseve (February 2015), even after Minsk II was signed.
2. There was continuous Russian regular troops and equipment in eastern Ukraine, contributing to ongoing hostilities. Russia’s failure to enforce a ceasefire among its proxies suggests non-compliance with this core provision.
3. Point 10 of Minsk II explicitly called for the withdrawal of foreign armed formations, which Ukraine and Western observers interpreted as referring to Russian forces. Russia consistently denied having troops in Ukraine, claiming any Russians present were “volunteers.” However, extensive evidence from Western intelligence, investigative journalists, and OSCE reports confirmed the presence of Russian regular forces, special operatives, and military equipment in Donbas throughout the Minsk period.
4. Russia sent additional forces to Donbas in January 2015, contributing to the defeat of Ukrainian forces at Debaltseve, in defiance of Minsk I and shortly before Minsk II. Russia also provided advanced weaponry, such as tanks and anti-aircraft systems, to separatists, violating the requirement to withdraw military equipment
5. Minsk II outlined that Ukraine would regain control of its border after local elections and a political settlement. Russia insisted that elections and special status for DPR/LPR precede border transfer, while Ukraine demanded border control first to ensure security. Russia’s continued control over the border through its proxies and its refusal to withdraw forces prevented progress on this provision.
6. Russia facilitated the flow of fighters, weapons, and supplies across the border to sustain the DPR/LPR, directly undermining the agreement’s intent.
7. Separatist-held elections in November 2014 and November 2018, supported by Russia, violated Minsk I and II, as they were not conducted under Ukrainian law or OSCE oversight.
8. Russia issued over 720,000 passports to residents of Donbas under a simplified citizenship process starting in 2019, which was a violation of the Minsk Agreements, as it altered the demographic and political context of the region ahead of any agreed elections
Then there are two options:
1. The war gets an armistice, but then will flare up in a few more years when Moscow comes back for more land
2. The Ukrainians will keep fighting.
For #1 - as I’ve said elsewhere, Putin is responsible for building up Ukraine’s sense of self - they won’t lie down and be absorbed any more - they might have acquiesced to that in 2010, but since 2022, the surge of patriotism has rendered that impossible
