President Trump again pushed for a 30-day cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine Thursday after speaking by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, promising to “stay committed to securing Peace” after earlier threatening to walk away from talks between the warring nations.
“Talks with Russia/Ukraine continue,” Trump, 78, posted to Truth Social. “The U.S. calls for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations.”
“If the ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions,” he added.
Zelensky, 47, described his call with Trump on X as a “good conversation,” during which the two presidents “welcomed the Ukrainian Parliament’s ratification” of the US and Ukraine’s newly inked mineral deal that will see the nations splitting profits 50/50 from the sale of new mining and drilling licenses on Ukrainian territory.

If the ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions. Thousands of young soldiers are dying on a weekly basis, and everybody should want it to STOP. I do, and the United States of America does, also. As President, I will stay committed to securing Peace between Russia and Ukraine, together with the Europeans, and a Lasting Peace it will be! This ceasefire must ultimately build toward a Peace Agreement. It can all be done very quickly, and I will be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
If Zelensky attacks the parade in Moscow tomorrow, all bets are off
He ought to be walking away. Ukraine is not our concern, and Zelensky is a putz.
The 30 day is just a scam. The minute a 30 day is announced, NATO countries like England, France, Germany, Poland, Estonia will flood troops into Ukraine and embed them as “peacekeepers”. We will start flying jets, missiles, cargo aircraft etc. From that point on it would be permanent. So it’s not happening.

Obviously Russia knows the same - so no deal. And if Trump (stupidly) tries to ratchet up sanctions, then I guess Putin was right after all, no difference between Trump and Biden, at least regarding Ukraine.
Not crazy but twisted lunacy. I honestly believe he is unstatble.
The only way for this war to end quickly is cutoff all military aid to Ukraine and force Ukraine to accept a deal.
And, we're only getting something out of the minerals deal when the war ends.

Trump knows the art of the deal and is giving Putin an ultimatum to stop his attacks on Ukraine.
Nothing to stop those moves by the West now if they truly wanted to. No safer trying it under the guise of a shaky cease fire.
