I figured you were exaggerating. I made it to 18 minute and slept the next 20. What a cure for insomnia! And I find the subject matter fascinating, too.

As I recall , there was an earthquake. The resulting tsunami destroyed the civilization on the mainland and on the island. Most of the humans lived very near to the coastlines.

Before he became a Cæsar, Claudius wrote one of the earliest histories of the Etruscans.

Excellent video. The Romans are often given credit for advances in engineering and construction but much of what they did was absorbed from the pre-existing Etruscan culture. In fact it has been said that the Etruscans saw themselves as the aristocracy and the Romans as rude aggressive upstarts. As often happens in history, the more aggressive culture ends up prevailing.

Alas, it didn’t survive antiquity. I’m hoping a copy shows up via new techniques that can recover text scraped off parchment (palimsests).

Those were Plato’s Stepchildren. :^) Although, Kirk and crew also ran across Apollo (the Etruscans called him “Upullu”).

The vid actually covers some of that. In particular the Etruscan hydrology methods, as well as their roadbuilding, made a lot of the Roman Empire possible.
