Thirty-two passengers were rescued Saturday evening after a multimillion-dollar luxury yacht started sinking off the coast of Miami Beach.
The yacht β a 63-foot Tecnomar for Lamborghini that costs an eye-watering $4 million β was taking on water near Flagler Monument Island, a popular man-made island in Miami's Biscayne Bay.
Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the scene to help the stranded passengers.
The boat was carrying twice its capacity when it started sinking. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini can hold a maximum of 16 people on board, as noted on the Lamborghini Miami website.
The limited-edition Tecnomar for Lamborghini β created by Lamborghini and The Italian Sea Group β weighs in at 24 tons and can reach a speed of 63 knots, or around 72 miles per hour. The high-end yacht was inspired by Lamborghini's super sports cars, according to the Tecnomar Yachts website.

This story makes no sense. Any boat 26ft or over gets a yacht certificate. This is not the plate on smaller boats that tells HP and number of persons/weight. A yacht does not have a number of persons designation. They also are often exempt from state rules about driver needing a lanyard and children needing a life jacket while underway. Looked at web sight and could not find the number of persons. Even if it is mentioned, the number of persons on a yacht usually refers to sleeping capacity. The boat most likely sank because a below water line hose/fitting broke.
I know, right?!?
EVERY boater is aware that the last thing you do before backing your 63 foot yacht down that launch ramp, you put in that bilge drain plug!
That is $4 million dollars worth of boat?
YOU WIN POST OF THE DAY :)
FORMULA ONE RACE WAS IN MIAMI
Two observations.
The women on board look like they weighed a lot less than the average passenger.
A boat that large should be able to carry more than 32 people. Could the 16 limit be due to a limited number of lifeboats/life jackets on board?
π.....................
I suspect that there were more than a few other boaters willing to rescue those bikini clad ladies.
Few among those of us who have towed a boat to the water, haven't done it at least once.
Like the scene from Jaws with all the boaters bouncing off each other looking for the shark.
I blame Canada.
f there was a funny scene post-Hurricane Katrina, it was the insufferable Sean Penn bailing out his little photo-op boat with a red plastic cup.
doesn’t look safe :)
Looking at the people on the boat is appears a bit strange. Maybe something else was going on?
I think the marine maintenance guy forgot to replace the rear drain plug after he worked on the boat. Happens all the time......

YES
Maybe for decoration ? They're shiny, right ?
