I'm not saying that we were wrong to do so. Just saying that Christianity has no bearing on the topic. Survival is a natural reaction, and reason seems to catch the first train out when that survival is under threat.

That being said, reason predicted an even more horrific death toll if Hiroshima and Nagasaki had not been nuked. Millions of Japanese and Americans would fight and die for the Emperor or for victory over Japan.

WORSE, without the examples of the instant destruction those two Japanese and the lingering effects of radiation, that IF The Bomb had not been used, we and later Russia (and who knows who all else) would think of A-bombs as nothing more than bigger and better bombs and there would be minimal restraint to using them in a subsequent global conflict.

What today's world would look like after one major nuclear war is an exercise left to you, gentle reader, to contemplate...

LOL, so much nonsense in that, you are way off base on your thinking about all this.

“”””Ukraine is no bastion of Christianity or morality either.”””””

Ukraine had been improving for years, becoming less and less corrupt while Russia has been getting worse year after year, in 2014 Ukraine was more corrupt than Russia but over the years Ukraine’s efforts to Westernize have brought them to vast improvement (now 105) while Putin has taken Russia into new heights of corruption ranking it 154 now.

In Ukraine people actually go to church at over 40% while in Russia church attendance is almost zero, they have a state church that serves the state and which the state constructs buildings for and which the people use for weddings and deaths, but almost no actual Christian belief or practice.

I am well aware as to the decision process that resulted in dropping the nuclear bombs, and that is why I will never be critical of the decision, as it was the correct call. For it would reduce the numbers that were killed & injured, if we had taken the alternative option. A horrible decision to ponder. In addition, we forewarned them as to the damage potential that these bombs possessed. They chose to reject that warning as being nothing more than bluster.

I'm sure that you are also aware that many Japanese military leaders tried to persuade against bombing Peral Harbor, because they feared that awakening the sleeping giant and bringing them into the conflict would be a serious mistake.

The decision to drop nuclear weapons was the correct decision because it ended the war, while the bombing of Pearl Harbor was the major mistake that changed the entre course of WWII. 🙂👍

Agreed.

But I also note that In addition, we forewarned them and our own war planners as to the damage potential that these bombs possessed. They both chose to reject that warning as being nothing more than bluster.

Without the horrific examples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the war planners would still be dismissing the forewarning right up until they were actually used on real cities and real people. A paper opinion report is a lot easier to ignore than mass graves which are still easier to ignore than real people writhing in hospitals or in public horribly scared and crippled.

Well, yeah. A paper assessment is kind of like a computer model that is used to come to a conclusion. Nothing quite measures up to seeing the actual outcome that is based solely upon reality, and not someone's conclusion that has a 50/50 (at best) chance of being correct. In reality, many times the result is actually far different with the assumptions used to come to the conclusion.

Right now, I am very upset with Congress, both Houses, at their reluctance to get serious about reducing the budget by by at least a trillion, and better would be 2 trillion in order to get to a budget that stops adding trillions to the debt.

The Biden administration kept refinancing the deficit spending with short-term T-Bills, which only creates a continued growth in the interest payments that keep coming due every 6-12 months.

This cannot continue. Sadly, DJT keeps calling the budget a big beautiful budget. However without big cuts in spending the problem only continues to grow more & more serious. If the dollar is successfully dumped as the world's reserve currency it will be devastating.

Russia's Medvedev says nobody can guarantee Kyiv's safety if Ukraine attacks Moscow on May 9

So far, Russia has done a piss-poor job of "guaranteeing" Kyiv's safety.

Attacking Moscow and (hopefully) disrupting Putin's vainglorious "Victory Day" parades would constitute a public humiliation of Putin and an all-around p.r. coup.

Perhaps worth it.

There are many heads of states present. It would be suicide for Ukraine.

All Ukraine would have to do is issue a preemptive public warning to the effect that, "Moscow continues to rocket-bomb Ukrainian cities and destroy civilian infrastructure, so Ukraine is perfectly entitled under the rules of war to attack Moscow. We advise that you NOT attend the Victory Day festivities. Do so at your own risk!

Survival is a natural reaction [...]

Are you attempting to imply that Putin is fighting for his survival?! That Putin invaded Ukraine in Feb. of 2022 because he feared for Russia's survival?!

FACT: Putin is waging a war of conquest.

Have you forgotten that only country to drop nukes on civilian cities was United States? People who live in glass houses should refrain from throwing stones.

I have no problem with USA using nukes to end WW-II quickly. That saved lots of allied soldiers lives. Because Japan was not ready to end the war.

Because putting Ukraine in the position to wage war against Russia defend itself against a surprise attack by Russia was not a wise decision at all.

On the contrary: It was a necessary decision.

Putin must be taught a lesson: That invading peaceful neighboring countries and annexing vast swathes of their territory will not be rewarded.

So, you support a terrorist attack on Moscow?

You're a dumb war pig, Marcus?

If that happens, Russia would be totally justified into turn Ukraine into mushroom cloud after fair warnings to the populace to get out.

The Russians would be doing US taxpayers a favor that happened.

World War I had been raging almost 10 months. On May 1, 1915, the eve of the Lusitania’s voyage across the Atlantic, the German embassy in Washington put a notice in the shipping pages of newspapers that “vessels flying the flag of Great Britain, or of any of her allies, are liable to destruction.”

Are you referring to the Traitor Gen Mark Miley who is responsible for the statement about “taking Kiev in 3 days”?

I would point you to latest US Intelligence assessment provided to Trump in the past week. It will accurately give you some of the reasons the war broke out and what Russia’s actual objectives were when launching the Special Operation.

Hint: It was never about conquering all of Ukraine, it was about countering Zelinksi’s mobilization underway to attack Donbas and Crimea, and it was to get Ukraine to implement the Minsk Deceptions I & II and the Istanbul agreeements.

So why hasn’t Zelinski attacked in prior years? Ah, the clue here is that had he done so, this would not still be a Special Military Operation with legal limitations imposed by the Duma. Instead if Ukraine attacked Moscow during this celebration, they would invite the real possibility of a declaration of war... by China, and any other attendees whose leaders were attacked.

Zelinski’s cocaine fueled announcements do not necessarily translate into action. Just as he was coked up at the White House visit, he is known to be unstable. The US would have approve any attack on Moscow, or suffer the consequences.

Almost every nuclear power has a simple doctrine. The US policy on being attacked in CONUS by another Nation’s Proxy is that the Sponsoring Nation is responsible for said attacks.

Ukraine attacking Moscow on that date invites the real possibility that War breaks out. The US is endnagered by Zelinski’s bluster. Even if Ukraine used a Storm Shadow supplied by Britian and US targeting data, we are still responsible.

I say Zelinski do it. Absolutely attack Moscow and harm Xi from China. NATO might find itself facing a million screaming Chinese in Ukraine.
