In 1972 the Soviet union launched two spacecraft to explore the planet Venus, Venera 8 would become the second spacecraft to land on Venus, while the other spacecraft got stuck in Earth orbit and so was designated Kosmos 482. Now, 50 years later we expect the spacecraft to finally fall back to Earth, and unlike most spacecraft this one is designed to survive atmospheric entry. So it could land as a solid mass and maybe there's hardware that will survive, or more likely it will land in the ocean and sink....

Yes. There are several episodes where people travel through time only to come back to earth (or elsewhere) at a different time under different circumstances, maybe more. One I am thinking of was with Jack Klugman who landed on the same planet his ship crashed on… twice. Maybe that would have been a better analogy. This craft will come back to earth to find the Soviet Union gone.

The Soviets built those Venus probes extra-heavy to act as a heat sink, so that they’d get at least some survival time after landing on the surface.

If I remember correctly, CBS used to have The Twilight Zone marathon every Thanksgiving weekend. We really enjoyed watching it.
