Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis forced to shut down North Carolina store amid battle over massive American flags
NY Post ^ | 4/25/25 | Nicholas McEntyre

The Camping World CEO claims he was forced to close down one of his North Carolina stores as he defied local politicians over the massive American flags flying over the locations.

Marcus Lemonis made the shocking revelation that one of the national RV dealerships in Greenville, NC, was shuttered on April 18.

Lemonis says he was forced to shut down operations at the smaller of the two locations after the city council sued him and the company for violating city ordinance with the larger-than-life flags, and continues to impose fines.

“We think the ordinance is wrong,” Lemonis told local radio station WTIB, according to WITN. ” I think it’s also wrong council members have been working very actively to disparage my business and on Friday I had to consolidate modification of 2 dealerships in town.”

The unexpected closing of Camping World’s Forest River RV retail comes as Lemonis continued his legal battle against the Greenville City Council and defied lawsuits to fly the massive “Old Glory.”

Camping World had two stores in Greenville, North Carolina, where the controversial flags flew outside until the Greenville Boulevard site was shut down, Lemonis told the local radio station.

Lemonis said the affected Greenville store had been “been unfortunately impacted uniquely” by the city.

Greenville notes that the flag is almost the size of a basketball court, spanning 3200 square feet. The pole it flies from is around 130 feet tall, almost double the current allowance.

“This has never been about removing an American flag or the type of flag. It is about bringing the flag into compliance with City Code,” Greenville Communications Manager Brock Letchworth said. “We look forward to finding a resolution that will result in the continued display of the flag, but in a way that does not violate local laws.”

Drivers passing through Sevierville need to be attentive. They need to keep close guard on their pockets and wallets.

Sevierville and Pigeon Forge and of course Gatlinburg have many, many hands reaching deep to extract money from passing drivers.

If you have $100k to burn, get yourself ripped off buying a POS, post-COVID built new RV at Camping World. Even their used RVs need a thorough inspection by a pro. They do not stand behind what they sell and take advantage of retired people. That flag is an attraction-getting ruse to impulsive suckers who shop there thinking the place is patriotic for doing that. Unless they are not pulled far and stay in RV parks a lot, RVs are worse investments than used cars. I did a lot of shopping three years ago and was lucky to find a diamond in the rough about 150 miles away first on RV Trader which then ended up on Facebook Marketplace when there were no takers on RV Trader. I started looking at Camping World and was disgusted by the sales tactics and then the horror stories.

My dad and cousin both individually did the same thing. Had a pie in the sky idea about bumming around the country in an RV as retired people. Found out it is a huge hassle driving those stupid things and not nearly as fun as you imagine. Then you have to pay to store the stupid thing. So if you want one, rent one.

Will the last Patriot to leave Greenvile please bring the Flag!

Nah, I'm kinda sympathetic. Camping World is patriotic and can do a lot for the community, but they can be, um, overwhelming. Our zoning board allowed one to be developed on the site of an old drive-in burger joint and mini-golf place.

Their flag is the 5th largest in the state (PA). It's RIGHT across the road from a residential area, so if I was those folks, I'd be pissed, especially about the lights all night.

I'll be the first to admit that this is all on our zoning board. CW is just doing what CW does. It's our people that let them do it at a potentially inappropriate place.

If it is, the lower levels didn't get the message. Our CW sent a bunch of RVs to a local Trump rally for the rally workers to use during setup. For free. Arranged by a regional manager.

I bought mine wanting it for temporary living quarters while a new house was being built thinking I might travel with it later. I lucked out getting it in a distress sale. After the first tow just getting it home and then to the build site, I decided to use hotels. Unless you’re really into the RV culture, it’s not worth the cost and hassle of traveling around with one.

The only valid question about the oversized flag is WHO IS IT HARMING? And “the feelings of anti-Americans” is not a legitimate harm.

He wasn’t forced to shutdown. All he had to do was stop flouting the law with his fake patriotism. He CHOSE to shutdown to renew the PR.

Marcus Lemonis was my boss at one point in my life.

He's a squirrel who knows nothing about truth. He manipulates everyone around him.

I’ve driven by it quite a few times and had to look up exactly where it was.

Trump is looking to put up two American flags at the White House. Maybe he could buy them from Lemonis.
