Honda Acura is voluntarily recalling approximately 152,800 vehicles in the U.S. due to an issue that can cause exterior position lights and rear tailgate lid lights to fail.
The recall affects model-year 2014-2020 MDX vehicles.
“Due to an uneven sealing surface, moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assemblies and reach certain electrical components. Contact with water can cause rear tailgate lid light failure and, in some cases, a short circuit that trips the position light fuse, deactivating exterior position lights and some interior lighting,” Honda said in a news release. “Without functional exterior position lighting, a vehicle may not be visible to other traffic at night, increasing the risk of a crash.”
There have been no reported crashes or injuries related to this issue, Honda Acura added.
This recall follows a 2019 recall of 2014-2019 MDX vehicles for a similar issue, where dealers replaced gaskets and light assemblies. However, the redesigned assemblies “do not sufficiently prevent moisture intrusion.”
“As a result, some vehicles that were previously repaired require the updated repair procedure and are included in the new recall population,” Honda noted in the press release.
Acura will notify owners of affected vehicles of the recall in late May. As soon as they receive the notification, owners can take their SUVs to an authorized dealer for free repairs. The dealership will inspect the lighting system, install a fuse harness, and, if necessary, replace the lid light and repair the body dust sealer.
Acura owners can check to see if their vehicles require repair by checking the website www.recalls.acura.com or calling (888)234-2138.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
It appears that Honda is recalling these Acuras on their own accord.
It’s their Civic duty..
ISWYDT.......................🙄
Ford’s F150’s rear lights fill with water and rot the sockets and wiring. After multiple fixes at the dealerships I just drilled a small 1/8” vent hole at the bottom back side of the light housing assembly. Problem finally solved. Moisture has a place to freely escape at the lowest point.
They have great Insight and it was a Prelude to owners throwing a Fit...............
I checked my 2017 MDX on the Honda website and mine is not on recall.
That sounds like an Accurate assessment of the situation.
Common issue on chevy’s and 2012 to 18 and probably newer ram’s.
same fix, drill a hole.
I’m surprised that the fed government has not addressed the clouding up issue of plastic headlight covers that has been going on for decades now.
Planned obsolescence.
I saw a neighbor boy’s girlfriend smearing toothpaste on the boy’s car headlight lenses one day. I asked her if she was playing some kind of practical joke. She said no, just making the lenses clear again.
I tried it myself on my own car, except with automotive rubbing compound. Although it took a little elbow grease, I had clear lenses again. I decided the kid had a keeper of a girlfriend.
Just a Prologue for the Odyssey these Honda owners will have to go through.
Hopefully they can Pilot their vehicles to the dealership and not wind up in the Ridgeline..............
