Carlos Santana was taken to the hospital ahead of his San Antonio show.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a representative for Santana, 77, confirmed that the guitarist will postpone his shows scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23 after being treated for dehydration and testing positive for COVID.
Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management and a representative for Santana, said, "It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight's show in San Antonio has been postponed. Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight's show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration. Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action."

On a note. My Dad is 80 and loves flying. Has been for years. He sold his plane. He lasted one month. Missed and bought another. He said he missed flying and he’s going to fly till his death. 😎

If Santana survived Woodstock, he’ll survive this.

I’ve heard that record contracts in the music industry are written mainly to benefit the corporate record labels, and that artists/musicians make most of their income from live shows.

Hope he is ok, that said still don't get why artists in their 70's and 80's(Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney) still tour.I think because they love it and it's what they. do. That said being hospitalized for dehydration seems almost a cover story.

Dehydration and Covid? That means he’s drying out.

I have not seen Santana in concert. I would love to if I get the chance. He can be quite the social justice warrior. Last time I saw him he urged any concert-goer whom had undergone abuse to come forward.

I read a few years back Carlos gave his life to Christ. Prior to that his own family said he was quite the jackass.

What else do they have to do? Fame and applause are probably addictive, and while they can't get the attention high they got in their heyday, sedate applause from fellow geriatrics is still better than being completely ignored.

Dude.
You are over age five. You should have learned how to drink water by this point.

I, and several I know, tested negative with the PCR test.

I saw Alice Cooper for the 3rd time a few months ago at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando. Previously saw him some 40 years ago and somewhere in between. Great show last year. Top notch band as always. Was surprised he had a bass and 3 guitarists and no keyboard. Best part was when he impaled a reporter with a mic stand on stage.

I was there too, in 1969, and remember him well. I’m 75 now, so I can ID with his ‘dehydration’ episode.

Live shows and merchandise (t-shirts, etc.). The albums and song royalties do not produce but a pittance for the musicians nowadays. Friend of mine in the Rock biz once showed me his royalty check for a whole quarter - $7.42. The particular band he is in does “guarantees” for live shows, for example they might get $3000 to divvy up if 1000 tickets are sold, if only 500 tickets are sold, they only get $1500. Some smaller bands even do beer sale guarantees now.

Worse than useless tests. Tests that are being misused to force the diagnosis of covid.
The propaganda machine is still chugging away. I have a neighbor that got all of the jabs and swears she would be dead otherwise. Of course she also insists that ICE is planning on “disappearing” democrats, their children, and other “undesirables”.

Some years ago when my [healthy] daughter was in her early 30s she had a dehydration episode and it was nasty. Dangerous stuff. At 77? Very serious.
