“Topicz said he is doing an accelerated rehabilitation program for first time offenders. As long as he completes it, no charges will be filed.”
IOW: DEI training, leftist indoctrination
The law is wrong in this case. Very wrong. The man had the right to protect his family.
Bugs and birds are higher than humans in the leftist hierarchy, I’m unclear why he is surprised. What did he expect?
If the bear had left the home, then the threat was gone. No sense shooting it then. In the garage? Go ahead and shoot it.
If the bear was happy with his takings, he would have been back for more. That’s why, when a bear enters a campground at a national park and gets some food, the rangers there get some target practice. There is simply NO WAY to negotiate boundaries with a bear, they WILL NOT LISTEN, no matter what the animal rights type claim.
Another liberal state. Pander to illegals, support them, let them off without any jail, without any bail, free to commit more crimes. But don’t shoot a bear that is obviously not afraid to enter your garage with children, unless you are here illegally, of course.
He “accidentally” shot the bear. Right...
Please don’t let me look at Facebook on this. “They were here before us.”
But “warning shots”? Did he say that with a straight face?
I would say if he fired in the air not intending to hit something, he should be arrested. But he intended to shoot the bear.
No good deed goes unpunished..................
I feel sorry for this guy, but he does live in a New England deep blue state. He’s lucky he’s not going to the Big House for manslaughter.
An illegal alien could get caught shooting and eating the bear and all would be forgiven.
He made a mistake.
He should have led the bear over to the neighbors house with a a 5lb beef roast, and left the roast on his doorstep.
Easy to do, all you need is the meat and a 20 foot, 3/8 inch rope.
I’m with the bear on this. But I’m NOT with the state arresting the guy. Killing the bear can be rationalized, but so can be running it off, treeing it and calling it a day. (Yes, I’ve hunted quite alot, and have a fair amount of experience with bears, mostly as nuisances.)
Bear is dead. Family is protected. Cost is immaterial. In 10 years, family still ok.
It’s not called the F you state for nothing!
In Georgia if you shoot a bear outside of licensed hunting its a big deal.
What really brothers me is he fired “warning shits” and didn’t know he hit the bear?
Needs better range time or get his story straight.
If the animal is to remain wild, do we really want it walking into a person’s garage?
The framers in their wisdom anticipated such a problem.
He could have offered this bear a firearm then they could have fought it out or the bear agreed to become his pet.
We have a right to keep and arm bears.
