Rosie O’Donnell is looking back at life now, and then.
The comedian, 63, recently detailed having a friendship with Lyle Menendez, 57, who along with his brother Erik Menendez, 54, was convicted of the 1989 murders of their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez.
“He started calling me on a regular basis from the tablet phone thing they have,” O’Donnell told The New York Times on Saturday. “He would tell me about his life, what he’s been doing in prison and, for the first time in my life, I felt safe enough to trust and be vulnerable and love a straight man.”
The brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 1994. While discussing the crime on “Larry King Live” in 1996, the former talk show host said she believed Lyle and Erik’s claims of childhood abuse and molestation by their father and that killing their parents was an act of self-defense.
After her appearance, O’Donnell received a letter from Lyle that “thanked her for her support and stated his belief that she ‘knew’ from a personal place that what he was saying was true.”
The actress herself had experience with the subject, alleging to the outlet that “she and her siblings had been molested by their father.”
“At that point, I had not ventured anywhere near this in my family or in my therapy,” O’Donnell continued before admitting she did not write Lyle back at first.
It wasn’t until 2022 when the siblings’ case gained a new life on TikTok following a documentary, that the comic reached back out. O’Donnell explained that she heard from the prisoner’s wife, Rebecca Sneed, who contacted her to “see if she was interested in speaking with him.”

The sickness is deep with the left. It may be incurable. Best thing is just to put them all to sleep. Almost not kidding.
Twisted.
Perhaps you’re so boadminded that your brains fell out.
It takes an extra special dose of evil to murder your own parents! Rush use to make fun of these guys. ‘We ask the court for mercy ! We are now orphans!’.
not the first time someone has been conned by a psychopath
She 'fell in love' based on a fantasy she constructed in her mind about her unobtainable 'boyfriend'.
Lyle picked as easy mark.
LOL! Thanks.
Wow, what a strategy for 15 more minutes of fame.
Yep— a genuine nut job. Add to that the fact that’s very, very ugly— the deep-down kind that can’t be covered up. Some lunatics are actually good-hearted, but just really weird. She’s not that kind of lunatic.
Murderers are about the only male species Rozie could be attracted to.
Rumor has it that Rozie is going to Amsterdam for the ‘Annual Hans Brinker ‘Stick a Finger in a Dyke Day’ cerebration.
I thought this was from The Bee when I saw the headline.
Then realized it was Rosie O’Donnell.
Trump was right about her during the 2016 debates:
Megyn Kelly: “You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs,’ and ‘disgusting animals’… ”
Trump: “Only Rosie O’Donnell,”
Trump: “Rosie O’Donnell, I said very tough things to her, and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it, and nobody feels sorry for her!”
Rosie O’Donnell needs mental health services. She is the poster girl for what happens to the mentally ill who have been told they’re normal. At some point, reality bites hard.
Very good point.
A psychopath manipulates a neurotic. That’s an ancient story.
Yep, Rosie O’Donnell is bizarre isnt she.
Correspondence and phone calls with a prisoner, causes her to be in love with a prisoner? What the heck?
O.M.G.
“He would tell me about his life, what he’s been doing in prison and, for the first time in my life, I felt safe enough to trust and be vulnerable and love a straight man.” Thanks Rosie for the clarification. Red Skelton would sign off each live show with “Good Night and God Bless”.
I hope she stays in Ireland. If Lyle wins parole, he can move there, too, as far as I am concerned.
