You have my deepest sympathy for having shingle is the worst, more pain than I thought possible when I first got them. A cool breeze or a cotton tee shirt lit me up. The VA offered me the shingles vaccine and I got it, after my last episode on my forehead and eyelids. The doc said it could affect my eyes so I got the shot. I been clear so far. But damn pard I hope you get cleared up soon. Be safe and Godspeed.

Sadly, I am up for the usual reason: shingles pain.

I understand that pain is a useful indicator for the body. But how I wish the we have been created with a "pain off" switch.

I discovered Free Republic while in college, because of the Lewinsky scandal. Last week I turned 51. People keep telling me I look 35. That can be funny a lot of times but I know it won’t last forever. We aren’t old radicals. We’re just “seasoned” as Rush Limbaugh often put it :-)

A few weeks ago MeTV ran the "giant jackrabbit" episode from 1964. This episode is still one of the most-watched telecasts in the history of television and is also the most-watched single episode of a sitcom ever.

Shingles case, requires a lot of sleep. Reducing stress, also helps.

Funny thing, before I retired, I used to fall asleep at lunchtime, next to the machine I operated. I worked in a noisy machine shop, and I actually found the machine noise soothing….

Now it’s too quiet.

I taught myself self hypnosis from instructions in a 1960’s Mechanics Illustrated magazine and have been able to conk out in 15 seconds or less since . . . 60 years later.

Gratitude for that. However, it does not work when neuropathy pain sets in.

Oddly, although my friends and contemporaries are getting and passing from the diseases of aging, I look fifteen years younger than I am and have such good test results that my doctor shakes his head. And, to be optimistic, the shingles pain is much less extensive than it used to be, which indicates healing.
