A 32-year-old man from Butler, Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged by federal authorities after allegedly making multiple online threats to assassinate President Donald J. Trump and other U.S. officials.
The suspect, identified as Shawn Monper, was taken into custody by the FBI and Butler Township Police after investigators traced a series of violent messages posted to YouTube under the username “Mr Satan.” According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court, Monper made threats against the former president, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, and various U.S. officials over a span of several months.
The case is particularly alarming given the location—Butler, PA, is the same town where President Trump was nearly assassinated during a rally in 2024. In a statement from the Department of Justice, Monper has been officially charged with “making threats to assault and murder President Donald J. Trump, other U.S. officials, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.”
Attorney General Pamela Bondi praised law enforcement for their quick action. “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans,” Bondi said.
“Rest assured that whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department of Justice will find, arrest, and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum appropriate punishment.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti for the Western District of Pennsylvania also joined Bondi in announcing the arrest.
The complaint alleges that between January 15 and April 5, Monper used the “Mr Satan” account to post a series of violent and threatening messages. The FBI’s National Threat Operations Section (NTOS) received an emergency disclosure on April 8 about the YouTube threats, which led agents to identify Monper’s IP address and location.
In February, Monper reportedly posted: “I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office.” A month later, he added: “Eventually im going to do a mass shooting,” and “I have been buying 1 gun a month since the election, body armor, and ammo.”
The complaint cited specific examples of threats, including one on February 17, 2025, stating: “Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way… American Revolution 2.0.”
On March 4, he wrote: “I’m going to assassinate him myself,” referring to President Trump during a live-streamed address to Congress. Additional threats targeting ICE agents followed in March and April.
Monper was arrested on April 9 and ordered detained the following day. A preliminary and detention hearing is scheduled for April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. McKenna will prosecute the case. The FBI and Butler Township Police Department are leading the ongoing investigation.
