AUSTIN, TX — In a landmark move for the state, the Texas legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill to ban the sale of assault rifles that have a capacity of less than 30 rounds.
Governor Greg Abbott was expected to sign the bill into law as soon as it hits his desk, limiting Texas gun owners to purchasing assault rifles with copious round capacities.
"It's dangerous to have assault rifles in our community that can't fire more than 30 rounds before reloading," said Texas state senator Billy McCoy, who co-authored the bill. "It's irresponsible, and we can't let it keep happening."
Passing the bill wasn't easy. Democrat and Republican legislators frequently butted heads on the exact nature of the bill, with Republicans initially wanting to ban assault rifles with a capacity of less than 100 rounds and eventually being forced to compromise. Still, some Republicans referred to the "Spray-And-Pray" bill as merely a stop-gap measure.
"Requiring at least a 30-round capacity for assault weapons is a good start, but there's more work to do," said State Representative Wyatt Hollis. "What if the Mexicans attacked the Alamo again? We'd never be able to defend it unless we had at least 100 rounds per magazine. Texans deserve more than these half-measures."
At publishing time, Texas lawmakers had introduced another bill that, if passed, would make it mandatory for gun carriers to yell "Yee Haw!" every time they fire their weapons.

I’m glad I figured out the source before posting
Yup. I thought I had to run out and get a drum magazine for a moment.
Gold.
This is like the police patrolling the area around Ohio University to test and enforce the minimum blood alcohol levels. If you come in too low you could be arrested and have to spend time in the sober tank until you drink enough to be let back out.
No calibers under .50 either
I don’t think the headline and story was worded correctly. I suspect that semi-autos would have a limit of 30 round clips.
Yes, owners of M1A, AR-10 and M1 Garand would be upset. I would be triple upset.
The problem is that the laws have become so crazy that you can't tell if it is satire.
I wish I could afford a Barrett...
Belt fed, people. Get busy. It’s the law.
LOL!
The headline never mentioned the word clip. Many semi rifles can operate with a drum that can hold more than 30 rounds.
Hmm. Guess I’ve dawdled long enough over building that HK21 parts kit into a semi-auto. In the meantime I have a few 30-rounders for my FAL, so’s I can stay legal.
Had to read that one twice. Then I grinned. :-D
Lol. That would make my AR-10 REALLY heavy.
......”AUSTIN, TX — In a landmark move for the state, the Texas legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill to ban the sale of assault rifles that have a capacity of [FEWER] than 30 rounds.”
Gad.....isn’t basic grammar being taught in our miserable schools any longer....??
Whew! Barely legal, I am!
Nice!
