The EU attempts to control the world economy -- again
American Thinker ^ | 4 Apr, 2025 | Chris Talgo

The EU recently passed one of the most far-reaching laws in modern history: the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

Most Americans probably assume that the European Union is a benign organization that merely advocates for the broad interests of its member countries. Although this may have been the case in the decades after the birth of the EU following the end of World War II, it certainly is not the case today.

Today, the EU is a 27-member bloc with a collective GDP of $18.6 trillion, which aims to update the global economic order by inflicting its radical leftist agenda upon the United States and countries throughout the world. This is not speculation -- it is already happening.

Unbeknownst to nearly all Americans, the EU recently passed one of the most far-reaching laws in modern history: the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

In short, the CSDDD seeks to impose European Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards upon nearly all businesses and entities involved within the vast EU economic universe. The sheer breadth of American businesses, both large and small, that will be forced to operate under the rules of the CSDDD, means that the United States would basically become economically subservient to Europe.

Jack McPherrin and Justin Haskins, who wrote the definitive policy study on ESG and helped foster the defeat of ESG in the United States, understand the implications of the CSDDD better than anyone. They recently released an analysis of the CSDDD, aptly titled, “The European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive Is a Direct Threat to U.S. Sovereignty, Free Markets, and Individual Liberty.”

According to McPherrin and Haskins, “EU policymakers deliberately designed the CSDDD to change business practices around the world, rather than only within the jurisdiction of EU member states.”

Trump has correctly stated that the EU was created to counter the US, not to partner with us

Have seen the latest Orwell move coming out of Europe is to try and fine Twitter/X a Billion dollars for spreading “misinformation”

Meanwhile...

Elon Musk's X may face EU fine of more than $1 billion over illicit content and misinformation Elon Musk's social media platform X may face a record-breaking EU fine for breaching the Digital Services Act, escalating tensions.

Dear Europe,
You don’t make enough stuff.
You don’t buy enough stuff.
Has this made the picture clear?

Please don’t interrupt them while they’re blowing up and shutting down their “fossil fuel” facilities and implementing plans to drive their farmers out of production while importing millions of 3d world invaders dedicated to destroying their culture

This is protectionism by means other than tariffs. It has been growing for the last 50 years. Think CCITT, ISO, ROHS, and CE standards that we have gone along with. The EU may have jumped the shark on this one though.

Perhaps 40% tariffs will cure Europe’s virus?

The EU is scared excrement-less because their American cash cow has left the barn...and is not coming back.

The European Left does not always dominate elections, especially when it can practice its own versions of "lawfare," but using the parliamentary system and flooding people's options with many parties, it controls parliaments, up to and into the European Union. It is a velvet=glove version of the old Marxism done a different way.

Demonstrating that the EU us rooted in Communist ideology, one may look to a "founding father," Altirero Spinelli, whose words are emblazoned onto an EU building in Brussels.

"...his goal of a European supranational government to prevent further wars and to join the countries of this continent into a united Europe."

Source: Altiero Spinelli: an unrelenting federalist EU document

Specifically, "...The second are those who see the creation of a solid international State as the main purpose; they will direct popular forces toward this goal, and, having won national power, will use it first and foremost as an instrument for achieving international unity.” ― Altiero Spinelli, Il manifesto di Ventotene

This was and remains the "globalist's" dream, and the hard Left, Left and center-Left across Europe has been moving slowly to it. This is why one finds "globalist" groups HQ'd in Europe. The European Union means to lead -- the world. This is why so many actions are and will continue against the United States and its successful citizens.

Europe is closing down its own energy options for ideological "green" reasons, capital is moving away, and the EU's grab for cash will be ever more against "infractions" of their directives.

Trump wants the UK to allow free speech and the EU wants to impose civilization-killing wacko CC standards.

I’m about ready to move on from Operation Lockstep to Hack Attack in the Rockefeller’s famous scenario plans.

So the EU has effectively added tariffs on some American companies. Either a strategy on their part to combat US tariffs, or simply a really dumb DEI/Climate Change/ESG push.

From a product perspective, what is the largest revenue producing item the US buys from EU countries? A random google says we import $342B in 2024 from EU countries with pharmaceuticals (33.2%), and automotive (10%) as top categories. I’m sure better data is available- but my gut reaction is that we could produce those products here. By Americans. With jobs that support families, motivates better lifestyle behaviors, and makes our country less reliant on others.

The EU charges a 39% tariff on all US imports. The EU also has reams of regulations that almost every commercial product must be certified against. This effectively excludes foreign made products. For example something like a toothbrush or a bath towel will each have around 100 EU regulations they must comply with. The chance that any foreign toothbrush or towel would be compliant with the EU regulations is almost zero.

The new US tariff rate for EU imports is 20%, about half of the EU tariff. The new US tariffs look like they are either 10% or half of the other country’s tariff. China’s tariff on US products was 67% and the new US tariff is 34%. In response China raised their tariff an additional 34% for a total of 101%. I really don’t understand how other countries can complain.

We knew this when they created their own currency. They even said it at the time. It did not come to plan then, but they have been steadily trying to dominate us since.

Meanwhile, European companies like Siemens are building large manufacturing facilities in the United States. It’s looking like the companies that want to stay in business are moving here. They are undoubtedly aware that the EU is dying.
