Macron’s fragrance overpowering aides in Elysée Palace

Emmanuel Macron wears so much cologne that aides “scent” his presence before he enters the room, according to a new book on life at the Elysée Palace.

In what is seen as a deliberate “attribute of power,” Mr Macron sprays on “industrial amounts” of Dior Eau Savage, according to a new book.

Extracts from The Tragedy of the Elysée, by Le Parisien journalist Olivier Beaumont, claim Mr Macron freshens up with the popular cologne “at all hours of the day”.

The 100ml bottles of the eau de parfum retail at £104 and Mr Macron always has “a bottle always to hand, particularly in one of the drawers of his desk”.

The book claims: “Less-accustomed visitors may find themselves overcome by the floral and musky scent, as refined as it is powerful. It is a sign of one thing: that the president is in the building.”

“Just as Louis XIV made his perfumes an attribute of power when he paraded through the galleries of Versailles, Emmanuel Macron uses his as an element of his authority at the Elysée,” it goes on.

In the 1980s I had the pleasure of visiting French and Italian beaches featuring topless Euro girls with armpit hair. Those were the Halcyon days.

No wonder Trump about sprains Macron’s wrist and arm every time he sees him.

I would’ve pegged him as a “drakkar noir” man.

Eau Sauvage is considered an iconic masterpiece in the fragrance world. It was introduced in the 1960s and is a true old school cologne — citrusy and fairly understated and fades quickly. Not to be confused with the similarly named Sauvage of the recent Johnny Depp commercials, which is a modern chemical bomb that blares mercilessly for hours on end.

Boy, those frogs read an awful lot into scented toilet water.

This is Court of Louis XVI level unseriousness and decadence.

We are all as overwhelmed by Macron's power fragrance as we were by Media reports of peak Biden.

Reminds me of a great skit by the British comedian Catherine Tate. She’s playing a teenage girl in a French class and she clearly has no interest in learning French. She’s giving the teacher (who is actually French) serious disrespect and then,as the teacher comes closer to her,she yells “have you been eating garlic?”

I work with people like that who bathe in perfume. Eau de Parfum with undertones of cigarettes. It doesn’t work folks.

A correction: that was said by Louis XIV, the Sun King, most majestic French king ever. He also didn’t bathe and courtiers preferred to leave the windows open, such was his stink. Across the Channel, in his late years when Henry VIII had persistent ulcers on his legs that wouldnt heal, apparently the stink was so bad you could smell it two rooms away.

So Macron’s a step up

Another Louis XIV fun fact: he loved sweets, though sugar was a luxury most couldn’t afford. It rotted his teeth. A bungled tooth extraction left a whole in his jaw, connection to his sinuses, so when he desk the fluid would frequently come out his nose

"Many people come to me and they say, “Hey, how can you be such a swinging sex god?” Well I tell you. It’s not because I can make love up to one time a night. It’s not because I say the things a woman wants to hear like, “Are you through yet?” It’s because I know how to read a woman. If she is like a cat, I bring kitty litter. If she is like a dog, we do it on the paper. But I’m also a unique guy too. The kind of guy who likes to have his own special scent. Not to smell like every other guy. I like to have my own, individual odor. That’s why I wear tuna fish sandwich. I put a tuna fish sandwich under each arm. Maybe one or two behind the ears. I don’t smell like any other guy. And it’s economical too because the smell lasts four or five days."
