A group of Columbia University grads tore up their diplomas on campus over the weekend to protest the school’s cooperation with the Trump administration, and the feds’ detention of former student and anti-Israel demonstration leader Mahmoud Khalil.
The rally, which took place during the Ivy League university’s annual Alumni Day celebration Saturday, included students as well as a few dozen graduates of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs — with the crowd chanting, “Free Palestine!”
“It’s not easy to do this, with none of us doing this lightly. There’s no joy in this,” said Amali Tower, a 2009 SIPA graduate who spoke at the protest and ripped up her diploma, to NBC News.
“I’m not a proud alumni at all, and instead I want to stand with the students, and I want to stand with Palestinians, and I want to stand with immigrants who are being rounded up and harassed, oppressed and deported as we speak,” said Tower, who is herself an immigrant.
The demonstration comes amid prolonged turmoil at Columbia, which just saw its board of trustees push interim university President Katrina Armstrong from her post last week during a battle with the Trump administration.
The White House has demanded that the school institute a total ban on face coverings worn by campus protesters or risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars in federal aid.
While the university acquiesced to a list of demands put forth by the administration’s new Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism last week — under threat of losing the $400 million in funding — Armstrong had privately downplayed the policy changes to faculty.

“And they can replace the diploma for probably $50 to $100 dollars. The student records office will mail them a new one”
That’s what I figured also. I’d love it if the administration charged $1,000. Better yet, say “you are not in our records.” I can dream.
Alumnus, masc. singular
Alumni, masc. plural
Alumna, fem. singular
Alumnae, fem. plural
An Ivy Leaguer, a singular person, refers to his lone self as an alumni.
Seriously, Ivy institutions are only about accessing contacts and networking. The graduates are no brighter then most other university graduates.
Given the quality of those “students”, their degrees deserved tearing up, since they had the value of an NPR editorial.
Between the fact that most students at Ivory League colleges now take REMEDIAL CLASSES*, given DEI (obviously related), and now given open support for the genocide of millions of people (via Hamas)...it gets hard to see how any reasonable hiring department at Big Firm would even consider looking at any of their graduates. Perhaps the schools figure that once the students are graduated, they’re no longer a problem for the school...but where I am (and I suspect most of us here), any resume from an Ivory League college is simply RADIOACTIVE.
*or at least a good portion of them when it should be zero, other than for the football team
Doesn’t matter if it was a copy or not.
The degree still stands.
Mommy & Daddy will probably let the brats live in the basement for the next 2-3 years because jobs are had to find. Especially for basement dewellers from woke colleges.
She’s ticked that here Green New Deal and USAID spigot got turned off. I bet she is an insufferable hag to be around.

The torn diplomas were photocopies

Well, don't you feel silly then?
I wonder who paid for her education? Columbia is not cheap.
They are so damned dramatic.
BFD virtue signaling, they will just get a replacement for the one they tore up....if they actually tore up their diploma, maybe it’s like traitor J F’n Kerry throwing someone else’s medals over the White House wall.
Note to self: never hire a Columbia graduate.

Deport.
“Columbia, sir.”
“Thanks for coming in. We’ll call you if we need you.”
Yes, they are.
“I’m not a proud alumni at all“

“ALUMNUS”, YOU ILLITERATE JACKASS.
One would think a Columbia grad would know he certainly is not “an alumni”, he is an “alumnus”.
