Would you add a few more vegetables and whole grains to your diet in return for a healthy old age? A new study has broken down in detail the food groups that increase the likelihood of healthy aging – and identified the best diet overall.
For the purposes of the study, researchers led by a team from Harvard University defined healthy aging as reaching 70 without any chronic diseases – and still being in good shape mentally and physically.
The analysis showed that the Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) came top of eight healthy dietary patterns studied: developed by Harvard, the AHEI prioritizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and healthy fats.

My doc keeps telling us to eat protein...70-90 grams daily. We are over 70. It is a challenge to get that much protein.
Nutritional yeast (”nooch”) is loaded with B vitamins. Doesn’t taste like much, you can put it on pizza and never notice it.
Eggs help, too.
Shopping in the produce section beats buying vitamin pills from China.
Saying “it IS getting better” might be more beneficial. :)
Put some bacon or pepperoni on pizza and you have 4 major food groups covered! Meat, dairy, vegetable, grain.

Longevity is not as strong on my Dad’s side unfortunately. Dad reached 68 and Grandfather, who arrived from Poland in 1920, reached 81. I have been unable to find information for paternal geneology records in Poland.
I didn’t appreciate how unusual it is to have actually known and spoken to someone who had lived through the time of the Civil War. As a senior in high school, I attended my Great Grandmothers funeral in 1964.
Try some Premier Protein Shakes with 30g of protein in every 11oz shake. Paired with some Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt, couple eggs or some peanut butter, then some chicken or beef for lunch and dinner and you’re there. Fairlife also has the protein shakes with 42g of protein in each shake but they are a bit more expensive. There is also protein powders you can get and make smoothies with fruit, yogurt and milk/water and peanut butter. I like the Premier Protein Shakes with immune support as they have about 25% to 40% of most of the daily vitamins we need. Getting the protein isn’t hard.

You would have enjoyed the trips we made for Chinese food in Mons, Belgium. My co-workers were English monoglots. The restaurant staff spoke French to customers. No attempt at English. After taking the order, the server communicated the order to the kitchen staff in Mandarin. I know just enough of each language to pick out what was spoken and where. It's a wonder anyone actually received what was intended.
I wasn't particularly proficient in French, but successfully conveyed my order at another restaurant in Mons. Somehow I became the default translator that evening.
We did have some excellent pizza in Mons. Whether ordered in French or English it was pretty good. I found a nice Thai restaurant and discovered the staff spoke very good German. That made life easier for me. Mons is definitely a great place for polyglots.

Keto would kill me. I do eat avocados and poached pasture-raised eggs, good for everyone, but don’t eat wheat. Read book, Wheat Belly, by Wm. Davis, MD. He shows that wheat has some kind of stuff in it that raises cholesterol. I stopped eating wheat several years ago and cholesterol went down to normal in two months. No statin drugs for me.
I take one prescription drug for heart failure. Runs in the family. Never needed that pill until idiot governor closed the gyms for “covid”. I was doing a 14-minute mile on the treadmill five days a week then, trying to get back in that great shape. Slow process. I’ll be 89 in June. My MD said he’d never seen anyone my age as healthy as I am. I’ve lived in this town for 17 years. Had a cold once about ten years ago, lasted five days.
I do take ten nutritional supplements every day, Vitamin C,D, E, etc.
But maybe not. That suggests it's a fifty-fifty chance.
My Dad passed away at the age of 56 from his fourth heart attack with a DNR. 44 minutes ago, I reached 72 years old. I swear by a big ole lecithin softgel capsule every night.
Everyone of my male siblings have had either a pacemaker or heart bypass surgery. My GP made me see a cardiologist because she saw a little squiggly rolloff on a EKG. The cardiologist said what my GP saw on the EKG was normal for my age. With a history of every male on my paternal side having Heart problems, I asked the cardiologist if taking lecithin for four decades may have kept my plaque from blocking my arteries? He said yes, it might have, "so I've got that going for me, which is nice."
[Lecithin] Might Reduce Heart Disease RiskDiastolic blood pressure is the bottom number on a reading. It measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats. High blood pressure increases your risk of several conditions, including heart disease.
A study published in 2018 of 89 middle-aged Japanese women found that supplementation with 1,200 milligrams (mg) of soy lecithin for eight weeks reduced diastolic blood pressure levels compared to a placebo. The participants also had a reduced cardio-ankle vascular index. This marker assesses the stiffness of arteries, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
The researchers noted that they weren't exactly sure how the lecithin supplement improved blood pressure and arterial stiffness. One theory is that the phospholipids may replace damaged cell membranes. Cell membrane damage can occur during the normal aging process or from acute and chronic illness. This may help improve cellular health and reduce the risk of diseases like heart disease.
My doctor would like me to weigh 165. I'm 5 ft 11 in and 146.7 this morning. It's a challenge daily to hold my weight after the Whipple procedure. I bottomed out at 136.4 and had an NJ tube to feed 1800 calories per day to supplement what ever I could hold down. I reached 152 in late December and pulled the tube. The pump was shipped back to the provider. If I eat at least 2000 calories, I can hold even. I failed in that last week. Average daily intake of 1000 calories while burning off 1700 daily.
I use Optimal Amino to supplement my amino acids and efficiently boost protein. I also add 3 grams of HMB daily. The latter supports retaining muscle mass even without lots of exercise. If you are exercising, OA and HMB will improve your results in building muscle. You need to supplement D3/K2 as well for best results.
I just added the Dymatize hydrolyzed protein (chocolate flavor) from Amazon. It's 20 grams of protein per serving plus what ever protein is in the milk you mix with it. I use LactAid 2% or LactAid whole milk to mix with the Dymatize protein. 250 calories per serving with the 2%

I understand and ultimately, that may be happening, but the reality is, at the moment, it’s not.
Last summer I did great for a while and was actually able to add stuff back into my diet for several months. Then fall started and something happens then and I start reacting all over again.
Can’t figure out what it is yet. An trying the brain retraining route. It’s slow.
