Does a Government Shutdown Play Right Into the Hands of D.O.G.E. ?
self | jimjohn

It's a realistic question: A shutdown means the executive branch can furlough all non-essential employees. But isn't that EXACTLY what DOGE is doing (among other audits).

If that were the case, shouldn't we be encouraging the DEMS to vote for a shutdown, then let it play itself out?

Or am I missing something?

Just make note of the essential people that have to stay and work. Should provide a valuable baseline.

No. The Democrats intend to throw Brer Trump into the briar patch.

I think Napoleon said, "Never interrupt an enemy when he is making a mistake."

I share your view.

Bonus—the federal courts are closed during a government shut-down.

Extra bonus—this is a great time to shut down entire buildings of federal agencies—for good.

Triple bonus—President Trump can choose not to pay federal employees during the shut-down. It is his call.

All it takes is a bit of courage and determination. I am convinced this administration can get it done.

The leftists are going to whine and howl anyway—might as well accomplish great things and not look back.

Yes, a government shut down does two things.

1. It shows that whatever gets shutdown is not a necessity.

2. It gives DOGE free access to every shut down part without any employee interference.................

PDF: Guidance for Shutdown Furloughs

1. What is a furlough?

A. A furlough is the placing of an employee in a temporary nonduty, nonpay status because of lack of work or funds, or other nondisciplinary reasons.

So, apparently once the shutdown s over they are still employed.

I agree. It’s a perfect opportunity to identify unnecessary employees. It also gives DOGE access to things without interference. The dems are helping DOGE.

That is correct.

We have to wait until the shut-down ends to fire them.

I think we can handle that.

Ok first DOGE does not have the authority to fire workers. What they do is make recommendations. They are finding fraud, kickbacks, grift, and outright theft of taxpayer money and “heavens forbid” publishing that information. The Hyperbole that DODGE is some “boogieman” is just that... the screaming of the grifters trying to divert attention from their theft.

To put it simply DOGE is an auditing team making recommendations to the CEO(Trump) for how to streamline the business....

Criminal courts are not shut down, but there can be some slowing in federal civil proceedings because furloughs if clerks etc which would slow down but not necessarily stop the law-fare.
Judges are considered “essential” employees. I strongly disagree. These people on balance have done more harm than good.
Furloughed employees typically get back pay and shutdowns haven’t saved money in past. Why they should be paid for not working is ridiculous. Never got paid when business shut down for snow days.

On the judicial side it is a little more complicated than that.

The Department of Justice has a major role in determining what is “essential” and what is not for federal courts.

If Bondi can find a touch of spine she can shut down most court operations.

“It’s a perfect opportunity to identify unnecessary employees. It also gives DOGE access to things without interference. The dems are helping DOGE.”

A shutdown would be AMAZING for us. Dems know that. It seems that they’re in a lose-lose-lose situation right now.

1. Get blamed for the shutdown which, and we know that a shutdown is no big deal. But they’ve identified a shutdown as a scariest boogeyman ever when GOP could be blamed. Their base will be freaking out.

OR

2. Give DOGE free rein to invade all offices while so many will be practically empty.

AND/OR

3. Provide the opportunity to show both Dems and GOPs that life goes on for everyone with minimal staff, identifying all un-necessary employees.

ALSO good for us: Save a ton of money, as the employees CAN be unpaid during the shutdown. In the past, when/if called back later, they have received back pay. But that isn’t required, so don’t do it.

“DOGE does not have the authority to fire workers.”

WE know that, but “they” have been fed so many lies that they believe DOGE is omnipotent.

They’re terrified of hearing the words, “What would you say ... you DO here?” The DOGE crew should invest in masks that look like The Bobs.

Yes, it does. The people on my street that enjoy a federal government paycheck have been at home for years. Now they roam the neighborhood shopping for sympathy because they are not going to be paid to sit at home.....Two USAID and one State Department people.

Regardless of your politics, I think we've seen enough.

That does seem to be the case. A shutdown divides the government corpus into the living and the dead, the necessary and the unnecessary.

The Dems are on their heels either way. Trump is on offense, and even in a time out he is advancing his vision.

Prediction: Schumer is going the way of Pelosi. He will begin to sputter, and not long from now. The FBI wants to talk to him about threatening Supreme Court justices.

Remember the Obama shut down where he closed all the parks and monuments but left massive swaths of government open and operating?

I see Trump using that very thing, except this time the agencies that are shut down will not be a slap in our faces.

On a side note. There's no rule or law that states those furloughed automatically get backpay.

So I hope Chuck U shuts the government down. A shut down also gives DOGE more unfettered time going through the shut down agencies books without being hampered by the subversives working there.

And every fall you have to hear the teachers' stories of what they did on their summer vacation (cruises, trips to Europe, visiting all the major league ballparks, etc.)
