Five years on: The countries that never locked down for Covid-19
BBC ^ | 3/5/25 | Chris Baraniuk

Most of the world found itself confined to their homes in March 2020 as Covid-19 spread at a blistering pace. Some countries didn't impose any lockdown restrictions – so was their decision the right one?

In March 2020, billions of people stared out through their windows at a world they no longer recognised. Suddenly confined to their homes, their lives had shrunk abruptly to four walls and computer screens.

Around the world, national leaders appeared on television, telling them to stay put – only leave the house to buy essential supplies or for once-daily exercise, maybe. It was a last-ditch attempt to curb the spread of a terrifying virus that had already killed many thousands of people worldwide.

In London, theatre worker Tony Beckingham and his partner decided to use their daily exercise to cycle into the centre of the city one evening. "We thought it'd be really fun to see no-one around," he says. It wasn't. Places the pair knew well, like Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, perennially abuzz with people, were chillingly quiet. "It was really upsetting – instantly," says Beckingham.

It was at this time 5 years ago that wuhan/covid hysteria was growing exponentially, led by Fauci.

In the following weeks, there were masks, social distancing, karens, and economic devastation.

Just a history buff.

“..It was at this time 5 years ago that wuhan/covid hysteria was growing exponentially, led by Fauci....”

And Fauxi is STILL walking amonst us breathing God’s good air with a big, ole pocketful of our tax dollars. Read somewhere that Putin wanted him as part of the Ukraine peace negotiations. He wants him to stand trial in Russia for mass murder and crimes against humanity. We should give the vile, little basstid to him, along with all the Soros ilk, as a good will gesture and peace offering.. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch.

I never bothered with their “rules”. Flouted all of them, all the time. Except I wore a mask UNDER my nose so idiots wouldn’t yell at me. Performative, not effective.

Insanity, indeed. And it broke out and spread like a wind-whipped wildfire across the entire GD planet in roughly 30 seconds. THAT’S how fragile our ‘stability’ is.

"I want to base it on facts – like how many people died," she says. "Could we have saved a lot more people if we had had a lockdown?"

No. Next (stupid) question?

Refused to wear a mask. Wore a shemagh anywhere they were “mandatory” (mom was going through chemo during COVID). I got kicked out of a handful of places for “not wear a mask,” despite clearly having my face covered. It was about obedience, not practical risk mitigation.

I did that here on the San Fran peninsula and LOVED it. There were no planes in the sky. The 1,400 acre Foothills Park in Palo Alto was completely empty and I had it all to myself. I was out hiking every day and had all the parks to myself. I would tear all the stupid yellow “Caution” tape off the park benches wherever I found it. Whoever thought you could impact the spread of a respiratory disease by putting yellow “Caution” tape on the park benches. The hardest part was parking. I’d have to park a half mile or mile from the park and walk to it because all the gates were closed and locked.

I split time between Idaho and California. California was absolutely nuts and neurotic (and still is — masks still everywhere!) and Idaho was laid back and relaxed. Guess what the results were? Same per capita cases, hospitalizations, ICUs and deaths.

Many scientists emphasise that lockdowns were crucial for saving lives in the early part of the pandemic, before vaccines were available

Someone needs to inform these "scientists" that the "vaccines" prevent neither infection or transmission, and that there is ZERO data to support the assertion that they reduce the "severity" or chance of hospitalization or death.

OMG. Is this a novel or an exercise in creative writing?

Too many words.

Paid by the word? Demanding editor? Or a wannabe frustrated novelist who feels unfulfilled.

The Author goes to great lenghths to find ways to show the lockdowns might have been as effective as not having them.

It is pathetic.

Yep, in Coeur d’Alene people locked down for about two weeks and then decided “to heck with it” and life went back to relative normal except for the constant Fauciganda. Masks were only required at Costco. Few locals masked and you didn’t see it really until tourists and snowbirds started coming back in the late Spring/early Summer of 2020. Most locals didn’t mask unless forced to at work or at Costco. North Idaho was generally a bastion of relative sanity in a sea of stuipidity, especially up in Bonner and Boundary counties.

When I absolutely had to wear a mask, as in doctors’ offices, I’d take one of those blue masks and cut out the two white layers inside. It still looked like a mask, and I could sort of breathe through it. Grocery stores, forget it. If the store employees told me I had to wear a mask, I’d just leave.

Since I have a beard, the whole masking thing was even more absurd for me.

I remember a picture of wedding on Norwegian/Swedish border.
They were not allowed to cross the border, so they held hands across it! Crazy!

One thing the article doesn’t address. How many of the excess deaths around the world since 2021 are attributable to the Covid vaccines that many people were mandated or strong armed to take against their will?

Anyone who truly believes in “science” should want to know the answer to this questions. Unfortunately the government officials, academics, media shills, medical professionals, and pharmaceutical companies who collaborated in the the lockdowns and vaccine administration, telling the people to believe the “science” have aggressively opposed any attempt for a subjective look into the as a factor in the excess death count.

There is a similar unwillingness to examine the impact of the respirator plus remdisivir treatment protocol which may have killed many hospitalized Covid patients. Plus, there is no scientific interest in comparing the outcomes of doctors using therapeutic treatments such as ivermectin during the time period before the vaccine became available.

Trust the science we are told. However, remedies the scientists create are not subjected to rational and subjective evaluation, how can one trust the science?

“already killed many thousands of people”

BS, the virus itself didn’t kill anyone who didn’t have other glaring health issues and were given bad treatment advice. It was the flu. My dad passed during that crap because he was a heavy smoker and had a heart condition, not the virus.

I wore a fake "Steam Punk" gas mask.

Nobody said a word...or even cracked a smile.
