Russia must pay to rebuild Ukraine as price of peace, says Zelenskyy’s sacked general

Russia will have to pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine in any peace deal, a potential future leader of the country has demanded.

In a statement made in London, Gen Valeriy Zaluzhny, who was sacked as commander-in-chief by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy just over a year ago, also warned that the cohesion of the Nato alliance was at stake with America attempting to “delegate” security to Europe.

Gen Zaluzhny, who was appointed ambassador to Britain shortly after his dismissal as armed forces chief in February last year, set out his terms for a lasting peace agreement that includes Russia paying to rebuild heavily damaged parts of Ukraine.

“We should get very realistic security guarantees, and it can and should hope for the full recovery of Ukraine at the expense of the aggressor state that attacked Ukraine,” he said, speaking via a translator.

He also raised the possibility that Kyiv could re-examine its nuclear status – the country gave up its Soviet-era stockpile, then the third-largest in the world, in the 1994 Budapest memorandum.

“Ukraine doesn't have its own nuclear weapon, so it pays for its freedom with its blood,” he told the conference but then later avoided a question on the issue.

Uh, that’s not going to happen. You didn’t win the war and if not for the US you’d be speaking Russian

That’s what oil and gas does. They are everything.

But those Europeans just couldn’t be inconvenienced. Only Americans should be inconvenienced for European Security.

Russia will rebuild the conquest zones, duh. This is why it would be beneficial to the US if Russia takes all of The Ukraine.

I didn’t want the war at all. My position has always been to meet Russia’s concerns for security from us. I was fine with free trade with Ukraine for its mineral rights, while respecting its neutrality as desired by Russia. If, to keep the peace, there was a need to modify any borders, we should have done that.

I was referring to the idea that the population of those within the fertile ages, because of the war, has been reduced by about 90% and this guy wants to keep the war going, even if it means that nobody within the age of fertility exists to replenish the population.

90% of fertile Ukranians are either dead or have the left the country and most won’t return and this guy wants to continue the war.

Russian is "Zs" first language. Went to all Russian schools. His law degree is from a Russian School. His song and dance act was all in Russian.

He learned English as a second language when he was about 16.

The point in 2013-2014 was joining the EU.

Putin wasn’t moving on that. Everything subsequently was an attempt by Putin to impose control. That is illegitimate, evil.

Putin wants a buffer between the West and Russia. Having Ukraine join NATO and then militarize it’s border, to show Putin who is boss, is not going to bring world peace. All you have done is substantiate Putin’s concern that the next move by the West is war in Russia.

Tell me, if we were neighbours and I militarized my backyard with all sorts of military hardware and I was targeting your house, would you believe my assurances that I have no intention of attacking you? Would you really believe me?

You expect Putin to have taken the word of the West, after militarizing Ukraine’s border that we had no hostile intentions against Russia.

If we had struck a deal with Russia and addressed its concerns, we could always have warred later if Putin had broken the agreement he had with us.

As odd as it sounds, as part of a larger peace deal, Russia may agree to relinquishing to Ukraine’s rebuilding the funds sequestered by the US and the EU or even agree to a tax on their exports to Europe. In return, Russia could insist on Ukraine being neutral and resuming peaceful economic, political, and cultural ties with Russia. That would provide a basis for renewal of Russian influence in Ukraine.

“ Russia will have to pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine in any peace deal, a potential future leader of the country has demanded.”
*********************************************************

The REALITY is that Russia WILL pay for the reconstruction of the portions of former-Ukraine that it incorporates into Russia proper. Those mainly Russian speaking portions of Ukraine are the ones that have suffered the MOST EXTENSIVE physical destruction down to the individual building/housing levels. So in addition to the destroyed infrastructure in those regions much of the housing stocks will also have to be rebuilt.

Western Ukraine’s destruction is mainly at the infrastructure level with actual housing stocks largely untouched. So the war widows have plenty of choices there for where they want to live. Ukraine itself (with possibly some help from European countries) will have to pay for that reconstruction.

If Putin had permitted EU accession 2014 he could maybe have asked for concessions.

But that wasnt the point, he didnt want concessions, for security or anything else. Who do you think you are dealing with?

Oh. So sorry. I made fun of your sensitive personality trait of posting irrelevant links to music as a deflection because you have your head up your ass about facts and can’t back up stupid statements you make that your fat ass can’t logically support.

Maybe if you thought about what you say and spoke with some actual factual authority, you wouldn’t have to deflect people with links to music that have nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Better yet, just shut your stinking pie-hole. Better to keep quiet and have people think you are an ignorant jackass, than open it and remove all doubt.

This isn’t a message aimed at Russia.

It is a message aimed at Ukrainian voters.

Typical politician posturing.
