Over the last 2 and 1/2 weeks I've been getting about 3 spam calls per day. The numbers all show as local and they aren't the same so blocking one doesn't help. They all begin the same way, someone says "hello" and if I answer they start their spiel (a recorded spiel) about having sent me mail about medicare. If I hang up then the next one will be sometime in the next couple hours. If I don't answer it goes to VM and they don't leave a VM, still doesn't matter as I can expect another either that day or the next. Often I make the connection but don't say anything and eventually they disconnect. Still makes no difference. Some numbers not in my directory are from my wife's hospice provider so I am never sure if the call is from one of them. However if it is one of them they leave me a VM.
I haven't tried this yet but am considering, I have a compressed air boat horn in my garage and am considering going to the garage for the next one, making the connection then blasting it. Of course if it is one of her hospice providers It'll likely scare the hell out of them.
I looked at Robo Killer in the app store but it's $10/month. If it was $2/month I might spring for it but $120/yr seems excessive. But I am considering it as I'm becoming desperate (and pissed).
I'd like to hear from other freepers about what if anything they do or recommend. Thanks.
We use a dog toy that sounds like a fart when you squeeze it.
Fun for the whole family!
With an F you and a hang up.
I never answer the phone
Sometimes I just play along and then I try to sell them something like a timeshare........
I’ve been getting a lot too. I would ignore them and that was a mistake, they called more. Once I started answering and listening to the whole message, they leave an opt-out option at the end.
If they’re important, they’ll leave a voicemail.
We get maybe 10 “Spam risk” per day, annoying as hell..I just use the call block, problem is sometimes the ones that say “Spam risk” are legit phone calls and I have to unblock it
We get a lot of calls from people wanting to buy one or the other of our houses. I tell them that the price is ten million dollars cash. It doesn’t stop the calls, but I’m hoping that one day one of them will pay the $10M.
Never answer the phone unless you know/expect the call. Leave instructions on VM to leave a message and you’ll get back. If they really want/need to talk to you, they WILL leave a message.
“Olah”........Automatic caller announces name. “Olah”......The machine hangs up. Japanese greetings work as well.
I get those calls. Most annoying.
When they start talking, no matter what they say, I keep on asking them who do they want to speak with. If they say “you”, I ask what name.
They hang up each time.
Just don’t even answer.
I get about 10 a week.
My phone announces the number or the party who is calling. Sometimes it says, “call from potential spam.” If I answer, usually there is no response. If I don’t pick up the receiver, the caller often leaves a blank message.
I like to answer and just keep saying “Hello???... Hello???”... Hello???
Pretending I can’t hear them Until they hang up.
I think they end up flagging it as a bad number so they dont keep wasting their time.
Very easy.
I don’t answer calls that are not. on my friends list. If those calls leave a message, I read it. A few are OK, but most are not.
i use an att phone that makes the caller press 1 to get through. Every once in a while they will press 1. I just pick up phone and hang up saying nothing.
This phone gets rid of most of the spam calls. It announces who is calling. You can enter numbers to exempt from the process.
You can also block numbers but that is basically worthless since they rotate through numbers
There are a variety of programming options available
get one of those spam blockers and the calls dry up.
Sometimes 10 an hour!
Rare ... true. But darn annoying and they spoof folks numbers so they can’t be blocked.
Once the # that called was my own....
I don’t answer my phone.
