Mafia godfathers lament ‘miserable’ calibre of new recruits

Mafia godfathers in Sicily have been caught on wiretaps lamenting the “miserable” calibre of new recruits as nearly 150 alleged criminals were arrested in dawn raids involving 1,200 police officers.

Crime bosses from Cosa Nostra, the Italian island’s notorious mafia, unfavourably compared the new generation of mafiosi to those of the past, invoking the example of The Godfather, the classic 1972 film starring Marlon Brando as the Sicilian-American patriarch Don Corleone.

They said that, unlike their predecessors, new recruits were too quick to turn “pentito” – or state witness – as soon as they were arrested.

“The calibre these days is low, a miserable level,” Giancarlo Romano, an alleged mafia don, said in an intercepted conversation.

“If you watch The Godfather, the connections he had… he was very influential because of the power that he built at a political level. But us – what can we do? We’re on our knees, guys. We think we do business, but these days it’s others who do it. We used to be number one, now it’s others… we’re just gipsies.”

He told one young recruit: “You should go to school – that way you will meet doctors, lawyers, the people who run Italy, Europe.”

Telephone intercepts also revealed the nicknames by which godfathers refer to each other, from Spiderman and Robert De Niro to Bear and Nephew.

In a wide-ranging operation, 1,200 armed Carabinieri officers conducted early morning raids in and around Palermo, Sicily’s capital.

Warrants were issued against a total of 183 people, 36 of whom were already in custody. They are accused of a range of crimes, including attempted murder, extortion, drug trafficking, arms possession and mafia association.

Cosa Nostra has long been accused of demanding protection money – “pizzo” in Italian – from business owners.

Maybe the mafia needs a DEI director to recruit trannies and caghineris.

I hear the Albanian mafias rule in Italy now. Partly because they are more vicious. Same as they took over the pizzerias in NYC and beyond.
Many of the criminal gangs in UK-Europe are Balkans and Albanians. Especially in the illegal drugs trade. When you read of a clever burglary in UK-Europe, it is Balkans - Serbians. Wars toughened them up.

“’deal with’ shoplifters”

The Chinese used to punish people by cangue, a number of boards fastened around the neck.

If the cangue was large enough, the person had to rely on others to feed them.

The person could still work. Rocking & rolling in bed was beyond difficult.

Governments don’t want to lock criminals in cells because then governments have to pay for the criminals’ health care and criminals can’t work a legitimate job if they happen to have one.

With a cangue around their neck, a criminal could go to their own doctor and pay for their medical care themselves.

Me thinks the mafiosi are ratting out their own noobs. Sometimes you lower the bar....then dump them. Teaches the others.

Gives the noob cops, that are not on the take, something to cheer about.

Everybody happy. The corrupt way of life.
