Here's one take on the half time show. This analyst reviewer is nuts. I thought it was the most horrific, disrespectful, racist, ghetto slop I've ever seen. I turned it off then the females came on.

IMHO, the performer was quite reverent and delivered a soulful and emotionally invested rendition of the song.

My singing voice sucks. Should me and other people with sucky voices be barred from singing the National Anthem, just because most people would not like our individual renditions/interpretations of it?

Is there a list of appropriate instruments with which the Anthem may be played and a list of instruments you would like to see barred from use in performing the anthem?

My favorite version of the National Anthem is by Louise Homer. Other great versions are by Anna Case and John McCormack. Each of these renditions features the first and last verse.

I didn't either, but I didn't watch the whole game. I did see plenty of stupid ads. Perhaps the stupidest ad featured a girl football player who was nimble and talented in contrast to the bigoted, boorish, oafish and bumbling white guys she was playing against. But then there was the "it's time to go to the bathroom" ad--I forget who ran it, but it was tasteless.

I wish it would dawn on someone to arrange for Renée Fleming or Denyse Graves or someone like that to sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful. It would be so much more beautiful. The USA has far greater singers than those usually chosen.

This is not the thoughtful argument you think it is but rather a lack of understanding of the terms used.

Intentional bastardization of the national anthem is never acceptable. Not from Whitney, not from Meat.

A “sucky” voice doing their genuine best to sing it as written will always be better.
