The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday, Feb. 9. While the Chiefs look become the first team in NFL history win a Super Bowl three-peat, the Eagles look to reclaim the Lombardi Trophy for the first time since 2018.
Before kickoff at the Superdome in New Orleans, Fox delivered all-star pregame ceremony that included Lady Gaga singing live from Bourbon Street and Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle delivering a special rendition of “America the Beautiful" inside the Superdome.
To perform the national anthem, the network tapped 7-time Grammy Award winner, Jon Batiste, a native of Metairie, Louisiana. Batiste's rendition of the "Star-Spangled Banner" immediately turned heads.
Fans loved it. One person posted, "Jon Batiste….. gave us the Louisiana rendition of the national anthem that we all needed. I love it." Another viewer gushed, "Jon Batiste is so damn talented."
One user on X wrote, "absolutely fantastic performance of the national anthem, Jon Batiste killed it." Another person posted, "As an on the record hater of the US national anthem you gotta hand it to Jon Batiste on that one. A+ anthem." One viewer added, "Jon Batiste just performed one of the most coolest, funkiest and laid-back National Anthem ever."
One man noted, "BEAUTIFUL!!! New Orleans singer Jon Batiste just NAILED the National Anthem. The entire stadium loved it. AMERICA IS BACK."

While I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, she absolutely nailed it in Superbowl 50: Lady Gaga Sings the National Anthem at Super Bowl 50 | NFL
I liked the jazzy interpretation because it represented New Orleans music.
No one can ever out-do Whitney Houston’s national anthem................
I agree. That performance was the epitome of “look at me!” The anthem should not draw attention to the singer, but instead to the flag. It’s not about you!
Sung correctly, the performer should be irrelevant, unless they make a mistake.
Agree. Very NOLA.
Well within the range of acceptable renditions. I liked it
It was fine. Very different, but fine...
IMO, the National Anthem should be sung as traditionally sung...
The only non-traditional version I have ever liked is the version by Madison Rising and David Bray...

It was a lot better than the halftime show. That’s for sure. I felt like opening a new can of rat poison.
Our national anthem should be sung in reverence. It is not some jazz standard to vocally riff over.
She was such a mess, though. LOL
It was fine, what was despicable was the halftime rap.
“I liked the jazzy interpretation because it represented New Orleans music.”
Agree. Batiste’s version was very good, very classy and very smooth.
Yes, I thought the same.
You can't deny her musical talent, she has it.
Cocaine is a helluva drug!.....................
Ok, we’ll have to agree to disagree about this.
Well I was happy the halftime show dancers were wearing red white and blue and stood in formation of the American flag. Not a particular fan of rap music, some of it is excellent I admit but I don’t seek it out - but that was good on Kendrick. Made me happy anyway.
I heard less than 15 seconds. Turned volume off as fast as I could. Love music. Hated that.
I didn’t like it, but have heard worse.
