A series of earthquakes near the Greek island of Santorini have led authorities to shut down schools, dispatch rescue teams with sniffer dogs and send instructions to residents including a request to drain their swimming pools.
he strongest earthquake recorded was magnitude 4.6 at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, at a depth of 14 kilometers (9 miles), the Athens Geodynamic Institute said. A few tremors of over magnitude 4 and dozens of magnitude 3 have followed. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
Earthquake experts and officials from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the fire service have been meeting daily and decided to close schools on Monday on the island of Santorini as well as nearby Amorgos, Anafi and Ios.
After Sunday's meeting, they also advised residents and hotel owners in Santorini to drain their swimming pools over concerns that large volumes of water could destabilize buildings in case of a strong quake.
Another meeting was scheduled for Sunday evening at the prime minister's office with the chief of Greece's armed forces and other officials.

Barely noticed on the Island. 4.5 is nothing.
It's the site of the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history, that destroyed the Minoan civilization.
It's not just earthquakes they should be worried about...
All these earthquakes could be due to magma moving its way up. If I had property on that island or close to it, I'd be selling it .
Let me guess. Ancient Minoan zombies come back from the dead?
Ministry of climate crisis? I think I see the problem.
Ministry of Climate Crisis?........................
I hope not.
We all do at this point.
It's not zombies I'm concerned about. Just the other day there was a post about vulcanologists checking for magma underneath 5 volcanoes in the Cascades. They found indications of magma under all of them, even those that were supposedly "extinct". Is there a pool of magma under Santorini? Probably.
Volcanic eruptions are often accompanied or preceded by earthquaakes, it's one of the prime predictors of volcanic activity. It's possible an eruption is imminent --- today or a century from now, I don't know.
a.k.a. Atlantis. Look it up.
Why drain swimming pools?
Why drain swimming pools?
Visited there last fall. Bucket list Greek island.
When it comes to "climate crises" the solutions are dumber than the problems!
It’s the site of the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history,
—
The Minoan eruption (Santorini) in 1600 BC had an estimated VEI of 7.
The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora with a VEI of 7 and was the same.
The largest known eruption was Mount Toba in 72,000 BC, which killed off most humans alive at the time, had a estimated VEI of 8, which is categorized as a super volcanic eruption. Yellowstone also had a VEI of 8.
VEI = Volcanic Explosivity Index is a logarithmic scale with each increment being 10 time the previous, However, in terms of energy released each increment is 1000 times the previous, with a VEI of 10 releasing enough energy to split the planet in half.
Earthquake experts and officials from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the fire service...
IOW, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection should be the Ministry of Civil Protection, with the Climate Crisis hoaxters fired. :^) Thanks BenLurkin. Nice two-fer topic!
Still shaking, though nothing over a three lately...

You can watch the bug out at the above.
Boy, I think I’d rather fly out than take a ferry right now...
Gotta say, the evacuation for folks who want to leave on the ferry looks very well organized...
Hopefully the small quakes are relieving the pressure so the Big One doesn’t happen.
