It doesn’t take much digging through the vast array of coffee-making apparatuses, either at your local kitchen store or online, to get overwhelmed. There are drip machines, pod-machines, French presses — even this odd-looking contraption.
When selecting the best brewer for you, you’ll want to consider a variety of factors: How fast is it? How much cleanup is required? How much coffee does your household consume? And of course, there’s taste.
1) Aeropress
2) Drip Machine
3) Pourover
4) French Press
5) Moka Pot

Pour over.
Pods are most convenient. Some folks treasure that morning cup private moment and indulge themselves with what’s best no matter the cost ben just for a few minutes.
Me I just don’t like cleaning up.
Aeropress, for us. It leaves the most flavors in the coffee.
If you have a bad coffee, thicker filters with another method, like Kalita, can help.
People who worry too much if they are getting the “best possible” coffee are really approaching life all wrong, in my opinion.
Grinding your beans just prior to brewing is the single most important step.
pour over
We have a drip coffee maker. However, when I want a good cup, I put one heaping tablespoon in a $1.75 cone filter holder with a No.2 filter and pour near boiling water thru it
Ours doesn't let the liquid drain through fast enough even with thin filters, so it overflows the filter cup and we get ..... grit. Very disgusting.
Just give me a cup of Joe, dammit.
Drip and immediately poor into thermos once brewing completes. Cooking the coffee on the heating element burns the brew
My My Coffee does just fine
I have an Oxo grinder next to the electric hot water kettle, so it's all handy and ready to go in the morning. I also use a kitchen scale to measure both the coffee and the water (22 g coffee + 350 g hot water) to get consistency. I put the mug, Kalita cone, and Kalita filter right on the scale to make it easy to measure. That way you know when to stop pouring in water.
I thought I might be missing out on some flavor so I pulled my French Press out last week. The coffee was no better but the mess afterwards! Ugh, just awful.
French press for me.
Apparently it’s the one that chemistry student in Breaking Bad came up with. I don’t think he ever had a chance to market it though.
Simple solution...a bit more patience. Just pour the water a bit more slowly so it doesn’t go over the top of the filter. My pour time to avoid that is maybe 30 seconds.
Hey I even liked the coffee they made an Army bivouac that you ladled out from a huge pot. A Chaldean friend once made Turkish coffee for me and it tastes exactly like the Army coffee.
Juan Valdez Instant granules. about 5 dollars a jar at Walmart. Pure Columbian, it’s a medium, mellow nutty aroma.
Nothing compares. Folgers comes close, but not exactly.
no one has brought up cowboy coffee???
For me speed, convenience, and cleanup are also considerations.
My keurig tops them all. Refillable coffee pod with the coffee of my choice, i set brewing water temp.
