Seems to be also validated by the vagueness of what the air traffic controller said . Validated again by the incompetence of whoever let the other air traffic controller or go off shift early. Validated again by letting that flight go out without two crew chiefs. Seems like a lot of incompetence.
Gang there’s a lot at work here. The trainee was flying with less time getting proficiency flying time than maybe she should probably because of DEI practices. I spent a considerable amount of time training men to handle watch stations on a US submarine. It was always you go to the bottom we all go, so as a trainer my job was to instruct the trainee but be close enough to intercede to prevent a catastrophic mistake sinking us all. If and it’s a big if, she veered of the flight route and was too high in altitude it was the trainer who screwed this up. What caused the circumstances heads right to policy and who set that policy. If this event is tracked to root cause as was the Challenger explosion, it’ll go back the Obama starting this crap and Biden amplifying it. EOS

My take is that she volunteered (and was accepted) for the aide gig. I don’t know how much of her time it consumed. She could have been performing her regular Army duties, as well.

Experienced army pilots are WOs. The commissioned officers don’t fly that much. I was in the Air Force flying 60s with the 82nd on a loaner program. I flew with an Army LTC who had 2500 hours and could barely takeoff-tried to kill us a few times, so they do a lot of “leading” and not flying.
She knew somebody. I suggest take a look at where she lived and who her relatives and/or associates were.

The helicopter said they had traffic (the airliner) in sight. Once you declare you have traffic in sight, it is up to you to maintain visual separation. The controller could tell them to turn (as they had them on radar and was receiving collision alerts). I can easily see the helicopter getting confused with which traffic they thought they had in sight (as an aircraft was taking off), and all the ground lighting doesn’t help. I don’t fault the crew, as I have been in many situations like this-nighttime, background lighting, confused and overwhelmed controller. Once they were off their altitude, the controller should step in and confirm the altitude, sometimes this is a wake-up call and gets you back into your proper scan. Sad none the less.
Was she in the Army or in the Reserve??

No. No. It was 200 feet max and they collided at close to 350 as they airliner was landing. If you like I can share the ADS-B data with you.

Best analysis based on what we know now (no mechanical issues).
She may have relayed to the check pilot an intent to correct the flight path and both were focused on the right side at the jet that was departing the field while the more important landing airliner was approaching the left of the cockpit.
