The U.S. Army has identified the third pilot of the H-60 Black Hawk Helicopter that collided with an American Airline CRJ-700 passenger jet on Wednesday as it was on approach to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, killing 67 people.
Captain Rebecca M. Lobach, 28, from Durham, North Carolina was one of three soldiers aboard the chopper that crashed into the jet just as it was coming into land.
The Army had initially refused to identify Lobach at the request of her family but the decision to release her name came 'at the request of and in coordination with the family,' according to a statement released by the Army.
'We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. She was a bright star in all our lives,' her family said. 'Rebecca was a warrior and would not hesitate to defend her country in battle.'
Lobach had worked as a White House aide during the Biden administration and had served as an aviation officer in the Army from July 2019 until January 2025.
Her family went on to describe her as 'kind, generous, brilliant, funny, ambitious and strong.'
Lobach had been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Whadda ya think?
200ft in that corridor.
Planes are landing and taking off there you know, so the helicopters must stay below the glide path.
200, not 2,000 feet max
“””‘Highly experienced crew’ flying higher than their allowed 2,000 ft max altitude.”””
200 feet is the max altitude according to our President Donald J Trump.
200 feet, not 2000
I think 200 feet
The CW2 would have been the experienced pilot on board. The fresh Capt....where and when did she go to flight school? Navy helo pilots fly helos for a living they don’t do political social aid tours at the white house. Idk about Army but generally Army help pilots are CWOs.
Are female soldiers now allowed to have loose hair hanging out from under their helmets?
My question is whether air traffic control had the authority to simply order the military chopper to ‘stop’ or ‘reverse course’ rather than direct it to ‘look out’ or ‘be careful’.
450 hours in six years does not sound like “highly experienced” to me, especially when she spent some of that time working as a White House aide in the Biden administration. I wonder how many hours she had piloting a helicopter in the last year.
Was she lifted by the Biden (Jill?) Administration beyond the level of her competence?
That would—like Kimberly Cheatle—be another DEI exemplar.
Just. Please. Stop.

From the article - Was this what she was doing in Biden’s WH?
Lobach also planned to become a physician after her Army career because she was inspired to heal people by her experiences as a certified Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Victim Advocate, the statement says.
I will add that I am relieved the pilot wasn’t some kind of suicidal trannie. While that would definitely validate what Trump has been saying, it would also have reflected very, very poorly on the Army.
200ft, not 2,000.
Everything Trump has said has been validated.
2019 to Jan. 2025. Was she flying during this time or was she a WH aide?
Agree, the CW2 was the more experienced aviator. Of course, not every Army helicopter pilot is a warrant officer; otherwise, who would be the commanders of the aviation companies, battalions, & brigades. I’ll guess her flight training & operational experience were delayed or interrupted by the WH aide assignment; not a good thing. Pretty obvious she exercised poor altitude control the other evening. Two hundred feet high is unacceptable. Will be interesting to see if the crew were using NVGs and how that might have affected lookout doctrine and basic flying performance.
She prob was getting this check ride because she was returning to the Aviation Battalion after her White House stent.
